  • Beautiful Change from the Beach

"We decided to stay in this area as it is about halfway home from our vacation spot in Hilton Head Island and our home in Central Ohio. Since we were checking out of our Hilton Head property on a Friday morning, we figured we'd drive six or seven hours or so and then have a nice weekend in the mountains before heading back home. We were traveling with two of our college-aged sons plus the fiance of one and a friend of the other, for a total of six adults. We had a very nice weekend in this mountain chalet and would definitely recommend it. The view from the deck are incredible, and it's just lovely and quiet. We lucked out with the weather, as well, and had a nearly cloudless, blue-sky weekend. The home itself is comfortable. We made ourselves at home in the master suite while the kids took over the downstairs bedrooms. The master suite is a good-sized bedroom with a very small bathroom with a walk-in shower. There is a small sitting area right outside the master suite at the top of the stairs. There are two bedrooms downstairs, both with queen-sized beds and a bathroom to share. We could not locate any sleeper sofa or futon in the downstairs rec room, so not sure about that. Our son's friend just slept on the couch down there. Also, there's a half bath off the rec room, as well as a washer/dryer. We traveled to the Food Lion right across the NC border upon our arrival and stocked up on groceries for the weekend so we wouldn't have to go back out. The roads to find this cabin are very twisty and steep and we didn't want to have to navigate these unfamiliar roads after dark. We ate dinner that first night at Gondola's (I think that's the name), an Italian restaurant near the Food Lion. The food was good and the portions were extremely generous. We ended up taking home about six doggie bags. All in all, we found this mountain chalet to be quite comfortable and would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in the area."

  • Love this place!

"My husband, our two dogs and I stayed here for three nights. It's a clean, lovely home tucked away with a beautiful view of the New River. There is plenty of nearby hiking- Mount Rodgers the highest mountain in VA is about an hour away. We hope to go back when the water temperatures will be more welcoming. If you have small kids or dogs just be mindful there is a spiral staircase (we used our cooler to keep our dogs from going down it). The foosball table made for some great entertainment :)"

  • Beautiful mountain retreat

"We just returned from a 4 night stay at Journey's Retreat. It was more beautiful than imagined, with every amenity provided. From a well-stocked, gourmet kitchen, to beautifully designed living quarters, every detail in this home has been thoughtfully executed to provide guests with all the comforts of home and more. The mountain views were amazing and we loved sitting on the balcony each morning and watching the days come to life. In the evenings, we cozied up to the fireplace with members of our family and spent time catching up on times past. We enjoyed every moment of our wonderful, memorable stay and can't wait for the opportunity to come back. If you visit Journey's Retreat, you will not be disappointed! A short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, we loved the fall leaves, picturesque mountains, valleys and especially, Maybry Mills. Be sure and visit the Dutch Oven in Hillsville for the best reuben, homemade breads, doughnuts and muffins, made by Dutch Amish owners, fresh each day. Thank you to owner, Dr. Jack, and caretaker, Jerry, for making our stay perfect in every way."

  • Cabin in the Mountains!

"My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at River Oak Retreat. We had a couple of small glitches when we checked, but Stephanie was on top of it and came over immediately. The cabin is clean, comfortable and well supplied. It's a great location with lots of privacy. The hot tub is a great feature after a full day of bike riding or hiking."
