  • The Perfect Place

"My husband, myself, our two sons and their wives, along with a 4 wk old grand daughter, stayed at this cabin for the Hillsville Flea Market event. It was the perfect choice for us. I waited till pretty late to book a property because we weren't sure how many of us there would be going. Carol, the owner, is wonderful to work with. It was a little drive to Hillsville but the location gives visitors the perfect opportunity to explore Mayberry and other surrounding places of interest. The front porch is the perfect place to just sit out at night a relax with a cup of coffee. There's a open field across the country road and the road is very quiet. We were early risers for the flea market, and enjoyed the back sun room in the morning. Carol was concerned that with 6 of us it would be tight, but my youngest son brought an air mattress for the twin room and that worked perfectly. I hope to return again to explore more of the area."

  • A perfect get away spot

"The Cabin was clean, well equipped for our needs and situated to allow views of a lovely meadow and watching sunsets over the mountains. Loved the swing and glider on the front porch and the option to escape to the back deck when the sun got too bright and hot on the front porch. The AC was handy during the heat of the afternoons when we were there."

  • A wonderful mountain house!

"We just returned from a visit to this wonderful house. We cannot say enough great things about it. Of course, the view is incomparable. Pictures cannot capture the beauty of the long-range views. I guarantee you will be mesmerized. The house itself is very nice -- clean, roomy, and comfortable. The bedrooms are arranged such that you will feel like you are in your own little retreat -- each one has a bath and is off by itself. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook just about anything. The house was immaculate. Cleanliness matters to us and you never know until you get there how things will be -- pictures can be deceiving. But this house was very clean and well-maintained (it is not a new house, but it is not very old either….) The carpet looked new as did the deck. The wood floors shined. The bathrooms were spotless. But the best thing about this rental is the owners. They really take good care of you - very attentive, lots of communication. We had one small problem -- we could not get the gas fireplace to light. (Stupid us -- the pilot light was out!) I e-mailed the owner and he called us right away! He offered to have someone come out and get the pilot light lit. (We refused mainly because we were embarrassed not to have noticed something so obvious and did not think it warranted having someone come to the house, but the owner would have arranged it had we asked.) The owners are just great to work with and give you complete confidence that your rental experience will be a positive one. All in all, this was the best VRBO experience I have had!"

  • A great vacation getaway

"We loved the place: the dock, the evening fires, the great house and land, the wonderful view of Claytor lake. The first day we dropped kayaks into the lake from the State Park and rowed them over, its very close, but the end of the week we carried them up the stairs and up the path to the road. That was a big effort but quicker than driving to the park - most people won't want to do that. We biked the New River bike path and crossed several bridges and through a tunnel. That was a great trip. We saw many dear and at least 10 turkeys lived just over the hill on the way out. Its easily one of the best vacations we've ever had."
