  • 2nd Trip to Lake Anna

"House worked out perfectly for our group. Lower level was great for the kids! House was well kept and functional. Dock was great for swimming off the main portion of the lake. Bummer for the kids that the water trampoline had a hole in it and we could'nt use it. Regardless we love Lake Anna and had a great week!"

  • Everything was perfect!

"We rented this house for the few days before and the weekend of our daughter's wedding at Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyard. The owner couldn't have been nicer or more flexible in our dealings with her, including allowing me to meet a caterer there a few weeks before on a trip to finalize some wedding details. We had all of the bridesmaids and a couple of the groomsmen staying at the house, and the accommodations are beautiful! The house is spacious and beautiful, and everything from the linens and towels to the equipment in the kitchen was top notch. The house is so beautifully maintained and set up so nicely for a large group. The house was completely ready for our arrival, including putting outdoor cushions on the back porch four our use since the weather forecast was warm and sunny. We hosted a beautiful post wedding brunch the day after the wedding for about 100 people and not only were the caterers able to set up a beautiful buffet and omelette bar, everyone still had plenty of room to eat, move around and visit without using additional rentals. Our wedding experience in Charlottesville (we live on the west coast) was absolutely perfect, and our stay at La Fourche was the highlight after the wedding itself. The girls (some of whom don't get to see one another that often) stayed up late talking and it allowed the family to all be much more intimate and comfortable than staying in a hotel. I can't say enough about the house or the entire experience, from dealing with the owners to our stay in this lovely house."

  • Great Family Reunion Location

"We just returned from our family reunion at this wonderful house. There was so much space and the kitchen was well stocked. It was nice that the owners provided towels and linens -they even provided paper products, ziploc bags, laundry and dish soap. The house could have used another bathroom or 2 given that there are 6 bedrooms and the back door was very difficult to open. Other than that, the views were amazing, the front yard was great to play in and the covered dock was a bonus."

  • Jim and LaDonna

"Just got home from a wonderful weekend at the Squirrel's nest. When I booked this months ago I was a little afraid that it would not be as nice as advertised. And I was right, but was MUCH better. The pictures don't do it justice. It is so cozy and very tastefully done. They have paid special attention to detail and used high end finishes with homey touches. LOVED the loft bedroom. You truly feel like you are sleeping in the trees, just like in a squirrels nest! Even with a lot of the leaves off the trees the views were beautiful and it still felt private from the road and neighbors. The video collection offered many choices, the sitting areas and hot tub gave you multiple choices for enjoying the outdoors. It was CLEAN, quite, and very relaxing. We are already talking about our choices for our next visit. Thank you for making and sharing such a treasure in the beautiful mountains of Virginia. I would recommend this to everyone!!! All the decorative stars are very appropriate because this place is 5 stars."

Central Virginia Travel Tips

Central Virginia, the Birthplace of America

Choosing Central Virginia condos as bases for vacations puts visitors in a region that is known as the birthplace of America. With the first permanent settlement in Jamesburg in 1607 through its role in the Revolution and Civil War, it is an area of living history. Its major cities include Richmond, Charlottesville and Lynchburg. To get here, visitors fly to Richmond International Airport. You could also travel via the excellent interstate highways leading to Central Virginia, with I-64, I-95, I-295 and I-85 all providing access to the region, along with many state highways.

The weather of Virginia is often described as "Goldilocks Climate," being not too hot and not too cold. It is a humid, subtropical area with frosty winters and sometimes "sticky" during the height of summer.

Cities Full of History With the Mountains on the Doorstep

Richmond is home to history, arts, antiques, and culture. It is considered to be the birthplace of Black Capitalism with many sites honoring the role of African Americans in shaping the nation. Explore the Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site, the Black History Museum and the L. Douglas Wilder Library.

Charlottesville is a charming, centrally located city in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains; it is a great base for exploring the mountains. It has a wide range of museums, galleries and parks. History-lovers can visit Monticello, home to one of the nation’s best loved founders, Thomas Jefferson. It is also an ideal place for golf-lovers with several championship courses nearby. Set within an area with rivers and lakes, it is perfect for exploring, sailing, swimming and fishing. There are also sports such as kayaking, canoeing and tubing here. It’s a great mixture of adventure and relaxation.

Also in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains is Lynchburg, the city of Seven Hills. Central Virginia lodging is close to a variety of historic sites.

Trips around this region include the Civil War Trails that follow the route of the campaigns and battlefields through Richmond, Petersburg and Appomattox. Here, visitors should stop at the American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar, the Pamplin Historic Park and National Museum of the Civil War Soldier, and Appomattox Court House and National Historic Park.

Great Shopping, Great Food and Great Fun

The region around Central Virginia vacation rentals is a shopper’s paradise with a huge variety of shopping excursions available. Whether you are looking for antiques, crafts or even a present for a beloved pet, it is all here. The farmers' markets are full of wonderfully fresh, locally grown produce which is great to take back to your Central Virginia lodging for some fabulous meals.

Dining is a real pleasure to be undertaken in Central Virginia, with wonderful regional dishes such as country ham with grits to specialty ethnic restaurants. Perhaps a family buffet in a local diner, a country kitchen serving fried chicken, or a great place for BBQ fits your personal tastes. There is also five-star dining with unique menus and fabulous service in elegant surroundings.

The region is home to a great selection of days trips to zoos and theme parks, including the famous Busch Gardens, Williamsburg and Kings Dominion. Of special interest for children may be the Haunted Monster Museum and Dinosaur Kingdom and the indoor water park at Great Wolf Lodge. For animal-lovers, a trip to Infinity Acres Alpaca Farm is a wonderful opportunity to get up close with these beautiful, gentle animals.
