  • Awesome getaway!

"We love treehouses and have stayed in various ones around the world. The Charlottesville treehouse exceeded our expectations! I wanted to plan a surprise early Valentine's Day getaway, but wanted to keep it fairly local to where we live. I found the treehouse on VRBO and Leora was prompt with email responses. When we arrived we were stoked on the awesomeness of the treehouse. It is very welcoming, clean, funky, and fun! One of our favorite parts about the treehouse is how close it is to everything. Typically when we stay in treehouses they are way off the beaten path and require us to drive to do anything. Although we drove a few places, they were all very close! We ate at some great local restaurants (that were recommended in the treehouse book- thanks!), hung out at the treehouse and read, took walks down by the river just below the treehouse, and took a little day trip up to Monticello and hiked up the walking trail to the house (Thanks for the recommendation Leora!). Everything was 5-15 minutes from the treehouse. We also brought our Westie with us to stay in the treehouse, which is pet friendly :) She loved it, especially all the birds and squirrels. Although we stayed in the treehouse in the peak of winter, we stayed warm. The first night it was cold outside, but we made a fire in the log stove and it kept us warm all night. The treehouse is also equipped with space heaters and electric blankets. The second day we were there it was gorgeous out and we spent the day with the windows open and hanging out on the porch listening to music. The only downside is that the bathroom is outside of the main part of the treehouse enclosed on the opposite side of the deck from the front door. I love an outdoor shower any time of year, but in the middle of winter I wish the half bathroom had been inside. The treehouse was just what we both needed. We had a great stay and hope to make it back one day! Will def. recommend to friends!"

  • A relaxing quiet retreat

"We had a large group stay for an wine tasting weekend (14 of us total). The house was excellent as the sleeping quarters are away from most of the common areas, making it easy for anyone to stay up late or get up early without bothering the rest of the house. The grounds were beautiful, we only wish it had been warmer outside. The house is pet friendly and the screened in porch was a great place for the puppies to play away from all of the horses. The 3 bedrooms with queen beds were extremely comfortable and very large, and the bunk room was great for all of the singles who stayed the weekend. The hot tub and outdoor activities that were accessible with the weather were great. The only small problem we had was the house wasn't spotless in terms of cleanliness. It was generally clean, but for a couple of clean freaks we had, we did some additional cleaning when we got there. I would definitely recommend staying here, and I would certainly return for another trip."

  • How Can We Rate 6 Stars?

"My wife and I loaded up on a whim while the kids were all away and headed down to Charlottesville for 3 days of hiking, wineries, and breweries. Dick, the owner, took care of us like royalty. Last minute setup and booking, and he was so prepared for us that Leo even had his own welcome dog biscuits wrapped in ribbon waiting for him after the ride. The cottage and experience cannot be described well enough; if you're looking to stay in the Charlottesville area you've reached the last listing you need to view. Read the reviews; they're all 5 stars only because we can't give 6. Everything is perfect. The house is ready to walk in and relax and you will. Perfect central location in a perfect serene mountain setting with a view from your private deck of beautiful Virginia mountains. Everything you need is already there. Didn't have time to go to the grocery store? Doesn't matter; coffee, filters and tea are already there to back you up until you can. Details? Check. The owners should teach a class on how to run a guest cottage as long as they keep Afton Cottage available for us. :-) We've stayed in many places and none are better."

  • Heaven!

"I spent a week at this lovely cabin in the woods. I needed quiet, solitude, and beautiful Mother Nature. This property fit the bill! I was close to historic sites when I chose to go out and adventure. Every afternoon I sat in the glider chair in the yard, had a glass of wine and just watched nature. This wonderful place cleansed my soul so that I could go home/work and face the hussle and bussle again. Thank you Beau and Rick for a sharing such a lovely place!"
