beautiful secluded location in the woods in a lovely hand crafted cabin
Wonderful porch to sit and relax, includes a table so you can enjoy coffee or a meal, or play games
Adequate kitchen supplies, including nice coffeemaker.
Clean sheets and towels.
Kitchen and bathrooms reasonably clean (see Be Prepared section below)
5 star restaurant a couple miles down the road
Very nice manager and owner and pleasant to work with.
Two small bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs
En suite bed/bath downstairs
Wifi works reasonable well especially considering how isolated the cabin is
Lovely peaceful environment and atmosphere in the woods, surrounded by the woods.
Air conditioning and ceiling fans work well.
This is Virginia so there are stink bugs that want to join you. They are not really a problem. you are in the woods, so there might be mice--inside.
You might want to bring your own cleaning supplies (we couldn't find any there) unless the following does not bother you: very dirty bathroom floors, piles of mouse droppings in the very unorganized utility closet, a few mouse droppings on window sills and dead bugs scattered around when we arrived (I expected them to be cleaned up at least on our arrival), no closets or places to hang anything in the upstairs bedrooms. For the price, I felt the cabin should be spotless, and it was not. Frankly, I think the elderly owner is being ripped off by cleaning and maintenance staff. When we asked to have certain things corrected (cleaning-wise) the cleaning lady couldn't make it because she had a TV show she wanted to watch. My husband (who is handy) noticed several things in the maintenance area that should have been attended to just to prevent the cabin from deteriorating.
No cell phone service for Verizon. We needed to communicate with family in Lynchburg so used texting which could be done via wifi. There is also a land line phone. Wifi needed to be reset periodically, but it worked well enough for basic computer use. Wouldn't try downloading a movie, for example.
You need a vehicle that can make it up the hill (gravel) to the cabin from the road.
Overall, we survived and looked upon our stay as an adventure, but with disappointments because of having high expectations for such a beautiful spot. If you stay here with these understandings, you won't be disappointed. And the owner tried to make it right as much as he was able."

"This house was wonderful and inviting. Despite having a flat tire on the way there, we arrived late and the house was perfectly ready for us. Sheets were all on beds and the house was well-lit and cleaned. The driveway was graded like they stated and the house was much bigger than the pictures showed. We loved the high windows, stocked kitchen, and comfortable beds. Being in a log cabin during the fall is always beautiful. The best part was waking up in the morning to the yellow landscape outside the large windows off the living room. The leaves were beautiful and the crisp fall morning was a perfect one for coffee drinking and hiker watching. We mostly cuddled inside as it was chilly, but ventured out for a beautiful hike along the trail behind the house. This was impressive in its scenery of the waterfall and stream and was doable for two couples are our two babies in their carriers. The dogs loved this as well as the dog-friendly accommodations the house offered. When we realized our car wouldn't be ready by checkout time, a quick email to the owner solved that problem. She was more than accommodating, offering to extend our checkout to whenever was best for us. She relieved our stress immensely. I would love to go back next fall. Thanks for a great stay!"

"Wow!! What a wonderful weekend! Our daughter got married this weekend. We live out of state & were referred to this site. While we rented the house for the weekend, we also had the rehearsal dinner on Saturday. Our Bridal party, Grooms family extended members were taken aback by the whole experience! The lodge, the spacious rooms, more than enough seating for dinner and the decks with more stars than you could imagine. When you say a full kitchen, you are true to form.
My Husband leaving everything to me & was so happy with the outcome! From the views, the beautiful mornings & the hot tub as we were gathering our clothes, kitchen items, dishes and what-nots! (He really did most of that, so when he mentioned Hot Tub, I told him to take as long as he wanted!)
We bought solar lights and placed them on either side of the drive, which not only aided people up the drive, from the deck it made a regal impression for all.
My extended family were so impressed & said we should make it a yearly reunion spot!
Thank you so much! While the wedding was breathtaking, heart melting and unbelievably memorable, the stay at your lodge added so much. Our Daughter & new Son sent us a message that read: from minute one, our new life was magical!
Thank you a hundred times! If you want somewhere that offers every measure of the Shennandoah experience with warmth and comforts, come on down!"

"I stayed here with a large group of high schoolers as part of a getaway. We truly enjoyed our stay. The owner was accommodating and made himself available to meet our needs. Our students enjoyed taking walks in the beautiful setting, and spending time with the horses and cows was a highlight. The kitchens are truly very well stocked and having two of them made it easy to prepare meals for the entire large group. The dining room was large enough to assemble as a group, while the dens made it cozy to break out into rounds of poker or board games in the evening. The building has a unique layout. The beds were also very comfortable and the sleeping arrangements worked out well.
The servant's cottage is a stone's throw away, so while you have the house all to yourself, expect to share the fire pit and hot tub if both units are being rented out.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend that you book!"
