  • THE WINTERGREEN CHALET

"ROOMY, MODERN, WELL MANTAINED, MUD ROOM USAGE WAS EXCELLENT FOR KEEPING HARDWOOD FLOORS CLEAN, GOOD PARKING CLOSE TO HOUSE, 8 ADULTS & 5 KIDS HAD NO PROBLEM WITH ARRANGEMENTS, HOT TUB WAS HIGHLIGHT DURING 14" OF SNOW WITH TEMPERATURES AROUND ZERO DEGREES. GOOD VIEW OF VALLEY FROM REAR PATIO DOORS/WINDOWS. WE WOULD HIGHTLY RECOMMEND THIS HOME TO ANYONE."

  • Completely private

"We stayed at Kingfisher Cove in June of 2013 but the calendar didn't let me go back that far. The house is rustic but comfortable, we didn't spend all that much time in the house but it had everything we need. The deck is wonderful and that is where we were most of the day or out on the lake in the kayaks. If you are looking for privacy this is the place. It's on 20+ acres of land far from any other dwellings. During the week we saw no one and on the weekends an occasional jet ski would come down the cove but never close to the property. Great place for a romantic getaway."

  • Awesome getaway!

"We love treehouses and have stayed in various ones around the world. The Charlottesville treehouse exceeded our expectations! I wanted to plan a surprise early Valentine's Day getaway, but wanted to keep it fairly local to where we live. I found the treehouse on VRBO and Leora was prompt with email responses. When we arrived we were stoked on the awesomeness of the treehouse. It is very welcoming, clean, funky, and fun! One of our favorite parts about the treehouse is how close it is to everything. Typically when we stay in treehouses they are way off the beaten path and require us to drive to do anything. Although we drove a few places, they were all very close! We ate at some great local restaurants (that were recommended in the treehouse book- thanks!), hung out at the treehouse and read, took walks down by the river just below the treehouse, and took a little day trip up to Monticello and hiked up the walking trail to the house (Thanks for the recommendation Leora!). Everything was 5-15 minutes from the treehouse. We also brought our Westie with us to stay in the treehouse, which is pet friendly :) She loved it, especially all the birds and squirrels. Although we stayed in the treehouse in the peak of winter, we stayed warm. The first night it was cold outside, but we made a fire in the log stove and it kept us warm all night. The treehouse is also equipped with space heaters and electric blankets. The second day we were there it was gorgeous out and we spent the day with the windows open and hanging out on the porch listening to music. The only downside is that the bathroom is outside of the main part of the treehouse enclosed on the opposite side of the deck from the front door. I love an outdoor shower any time of year, but in the middle of winter I wish the half bathroom had been inside. The treehouse was just what we both needed. We had a great stay and hope to make it back one day! Will def. recommend to friends!"

  • Mountain Retreat

"The positives: beautiful secluded location in the woods in a lovely hand crafted cabin Wonderful porch to sit and relax, includes a table so you can enjoy coffee or a meal, or play games Adequate kitchen supplies, including nice coffeemaker. Clean sheets and towels. Kitchen and bathrooms reasonably clean (see Be Prepared section below) 5 star restaurant a couple miles down the road Very nice manager and owner and pleasant to work with. Two small bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs En suite bed/bath downstairs Wifi works reasonable well especially considering how isolated the cabin is Lovely peaceful environment and atmosphere in the woods, surrounded by the woods. Air conditioning and ceiling fans work well. Negatives: This is Virginia so there are stink bugs that want to join you. They are not really a problem. you are in the woods, so there might be mice--inside. Be prepared: You might want to bring your own cleaning supplies (we couldn't find any there) unless the following does not bother you: very dirty bathroom floors, piles of mouse droppings in the very unorganized utility closet, a few mouse droppings on window sills and dead bugs scattered around when we arrived (I expected them to be cleaned up at least on our arrival), no closets or places to hang anything in the upstairs bedrooms. For the price, I felt the cabin should be spotless, and it was not. Frankly, I think the elderly owner is being ripped off by cleaning and maintenance staff. When we asked to have certain things corrected (cleaning-wise) the cleaning lady couldn't make it because she had a TV show she wanted to watch. My husband (who is handy) noticed several things in the maintenance area that should have been attended to just to prevent the cabin from deteriorating. No cell phone service for Verizon. We needed to communicate with family in Lynchburg so used texting which could be done via wifi. There is also a land line phone. Wifi needed to be reset periodically, but it worked well enough for basic computer use. Wouldn't try downloading a movie, for example. You need a vehicle that can make it up the hill (gravel) to the cabin from the road. Overall, we survived and looked upon our stay as an adventure, but with disappointments because of having high expectations for such a beautiful spot. If you stay here with these understandings, you won't be disappointed. And the owner tried to make it right as much as he was able."
