  • Old Rag Cabin

"We had a short weekend Honeymoon get-away at the Old Rag Cabin. We had such a wonderful time! Our first night, we snuggled in front of the cozy fire, sipped some wine and watched the snowfall. It is such a warm and welcoming cabin, the ceiling is absolutely beautiful! The scenery is stunning, you overlook a beautiful pond and the cabin itself is set up against a hillside covered in ivy. You feel as if you are in another world, even if it is just for the weekend! The drive to the cabin is just beautiful. The scenery, houses, farms etc are spectacular. Both the owner and caretaker were attentive, very friendly and overall kindhearted people. My new husband and I, and our dog Toby highly reccomend staying here if you want to get away from it all and explore nature with a hike, or a lazy drive up Skyline Drive, or if you just want to snuggle in front of the fire! We will defiantly return to The Old Rag Cabin!!!"

  • What an exceptional experience, Cathi

"Wow!! What a wonderful weekend! Our daughter got married this weekend. We live out of state & were referred to this site. While we rented the house for the weekend, we also had the rehearsal dinner on Saturday. Our Bridal party, Grooms family extended members were taken aback by the whole experience! The lodge, the spacious rooms, more than enough seating for dinner and the decks with more stars than you could imagine. When you say a full kitchen, you are true to form. My Husband leaving everything to me & was so happy with the outcome! From the views, the beautiful mornings & the hot tub as we were gathering our clothes, kitchen items, dishes and what-nots! (He really did most of that, so when he mentioned Hot Tub, I told him to take as long as he wanted!) We bought solar lights and placed them on either side of the drive, which not only aided people up the drive, from the deck it made a regal impression for all. My extended family were so impressed & said we should make it a yearly reunion spot! Thank you so much! While the wedding was breathtaking, heart melting and unbelievably memorable, the stay at your lodge added so much. Our Daughter & new Son sent us a message that read: from minute one, our new life was magical! Thank you a hundred times! If you want somewhere that offers every measure of the Shennandoah experience with warmth and comforts, come on down!"

  • Perfect place to stay if you want to hike Old Rag

"We LOVED our stay at this cottage! We got there in time for a nice lunch and then my husband and I walked to the Sharp Rock winery and managed to fit in a wine tasting and a glass of wine before my son collected us for 5 pm Mass at St. Peter's in Washington, VA. It was great to sleep in the next day, have a hearty breakfast, and then hike Old Rag. We left my 79 yo mother at the cottage that day and she had a lovely time relaxing. We then came back, took showers, had a great dinner, and then relaxed some more. We will definitely be back! PS - we usually make the Old Rag hike a day trip from the DC area but that means getting up at dawn, driving 2 hours, hiking for almost 5 hours, and then another 2 hour drive home ... using the cottage as our base was a much, much better plan!"
