  • Adorable Slope Side House-

"Location, location, LOCATION! Just a few steps away from Tyro this location cant be beat. If you are familiar with Tyro the house is located at the first bend after the first descent. It is about 15 feet from where Tyro is closed for night skiing. This in no way inhibits your ability to ski in/out in the day or night. You do have to walk up a steep little incline to exit Tyro but with ski boots and poles it really isn't a big deal. (Only about 10 steps) The home has had a nice little facelift. It is warm and friendly. We loved that each room has its own climate control. The kitchen is complete with Pottery Barn dishes and plenty of supplies should you want to cook in. Our group was three couples. There was plenty of space for each of us. The mudroom is conveniently located in the basement so you don't have to lug your ski equipment up and down the steps. The mattresses and bedding were very comfortable. And most importantly the owners have a hot tub that is actually HOT! Amazing after a day of skiing or even an afternoon break to beat the lines. The only tricky thing about the house would be the steps from the parking spaces to the house. There was quite a bit of compacted snow on them which made it very difficult to go down without falling down. We all walked in the fresh snow on each side of the steps instead of risking sliding down the hill. The salt provided at the house unfortunately didn't help. The owners of this house are a joy to work with. Kim is fantastic and this was as easy as it gets. We absolutely will be back to rent again and will share this little gem with our friends. ENJOY!"

  • Thanksgiving

"We enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving week. The weather ranged from 70 degrees to a beautiful snow storm. The house worked out great. Everyone enjoyed having their own bathroom and the two family rooms. The tubing was great fun. We also enjoy the Wintergreen area breweries! Thank you"

  • Perfect ski weekend for three

"This is the second time my husband, our dog and I have stayed at Dobie. The first time was a November weekend. The condo has truly awesome views and if you’re a wake-with-the-sun person, the master bedroom is perfect. The sun rises through a gap in the mountains, and shines right into the bedroom. Being almost directly across from the start of a hiking trail makes the location of the condo even better. And after a good hike it’s an easy 5 minute stroll to the market for snacks! Our second visit was last weekend. For someone who is a beginner/ intermediate skier, (like myself), having the condo situated just steps from the Blue Ridge Express lift is perfect. And it made it easy for us to come back for a lunch break. After skiing, it’s fun to sit on the deck and watch the more adventurous skiers on the terrain park. We brought our own food, but the Mountain Village is within eye sight of the condo so it would be an easy walk to dinner. The condo itself is clean, comfy, (especially the bed), and nicely decorated. The kitchen is updated and well stocked, and there are even good, sharp knives, which is sometimes not easy to find in a rental! Since our last visit in 2012, they added an awesome new leather sectional sofa that offers plenty of room for a family, (and friends), to settle in and watch TV. And the small fireplace is the perfect size for the condo. Its size makes it easy to start so you don’t have to wait long to make smores. Sarah is quick to respond to emails and is very friendly and easy to work with. Plus she likes dogs and allows them in the condo. I don’t think we will ever stay anywhere else when we go back to Wintergreen. Thanks!!"

Wintergreen Travel Tips

Wintergreen Vacation Rentals in the Heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains

A skier’s delight can be found at Wintergreen vacation rentals that feature ski in and ski out properties so that no time is wasted in traffic. You can choose from condos or homes that are filled with amenities you will not find in a hotel even if you have a suite. Your fully equipped kitchen, spacious living areas, and inviting fireplace plus outstanding views of the surrounding mountainside are great any time of the year. You will not even have to leave the family pet at home when you rent from VRBO as many of the owners allow your four-legged friends. You will not even have to store your skis or snowboards in your vehicle as the Wintergreen condos or homes have a cabinet for them.

Four-Season Attractions Near Wintergreen Lodging

We know that skiing is a big draw in this area yet it is not the only fun you can have when you stay in Wintergreen lodging. Summers are pleasant because you are at an elevation of 4,000 feet which makes great golfing or tennis games available. There are miles of hiking trails along the Blur Ridge Parkway and Appalachian Trail or you could take a mountain bike to explore the mountains and valleys. After a day of outdoor activity, you can relax with your favorite beverage on the deck of your condo or private home. Your host can often give you ideas for day trips in the area that enhance your vacation.

If you like history then staying in the Wintergreen area will give you and your family a chance to visit Monticello, the estate of President Thomas Jefferson. He remained at the estate until his death in 1826. The residence shows evidence of his innovative side with the time-saving inventions that he designed as well as items from Lewis and Clark’s expedition. Visitors to Monticello will find his grave in the family cemetery, as well as an eight-acre fruit orchard, garden, and slave quarters. The University of Virginia that Jefferson founded is in Charlottesville, Virginia and guided tours are available when there are no exams going on. You can bring a lunch with you on your day trips from your Wintergreen lodgings or find restaurant meals along the way.

Include Wine in Your Shopping Trip from Wintergreen Condos

Shopping is a great pastime while on vacation and you never have to worry about storing your purchases when you have a roomy Wintergreen condo or mountain home to return to. There are several wineries in the immediate area off Interstate 64 where you can purchase local wines and see how the wine is made. The Wintergreen shopping district is only minutes away from your door or you can travel to Charlottesville or surrounding towns for more shopping alternatives. Charlottesville has the Historic Downtown Pedestrian Mall that features art galleries, specialty shops and restaurants.

The General Store at Wintergreen Resort offers you a place to purchase wine, cheese, snack food and other necessities as well as clothing, children’s toys and sundry items. Gifts to take back home are prevalent in Wintergreen as well as the specialty stores you will find as you traverse the Blue Ridge Parkway. You will be able to find ski-related items at Wintergreen in case you forgot to bring your gear with you.

When Should I Book our Wintergreen Vacation Home?

Although you can visit the Wintergreen area of Virginia any time, the peak season is in the winter. With many of the Wintergreen vacation homes so close to the ski resort, they are in greater demand. The good news is that if you choose to visit this area of Virginia at any other time of the year, you are likely to find some great specials. Imagine staying at a private home or condo with more than enough room for your family and friends at a price that fits perfectly into your budget.
