  • Perfect Place!

"This was perfect for what we needed. We had family stay here because our house was full of other family and they loved it! It was walking distance from our house, restaurants, shopping and everything else we needed. Adorable place to stay - thank you so much to the owners - you were wonderful to work with! We can't wait to use it again for family coming into town."

  • Amazing location!

"Even though we were only an hour away from home, it seemed like a million miles away. I have never worked with a better property owner ever!! And Essie was also wonderful, helpful and informative. Thanks Jim and Essie!! The cottage is exceptionally well stocked with any and every kitchen need possible. It is a small and quaint cottage perfect for two people. The weather wasn't the best when we were there, but the pool still got almost daily use. The views with the ever changing skies through the mountains were amazing. It is very private although you are on a road, with very few vehicles traveling by. Our dogs really enjoyed sitting on the porch with us, watching the hummingbirds feed. Lovely vacation! Hopefully we'll be back! Thanks for sharing Ellen's cottage Jim."

  • Perfect place to get away and relax!!

"My husband and I met our dear friends from Tennessee for a long weekend. We loved everything about the cottage, a great location! Loved being on a farm (loved "Lily"), close to area wineries and breweries, Sat. farmers market, the view, just a perfect place to get away from it all. We went to 4 area vineyards, 2 breweries, and a hard cider place (next to house). It was so nice being away from it all but close to so many things to do! The house had everything we needed, and then some. We can't wait to go back, hopefully soon. Peter, the owner, was very helpful and accommodating. Didn't get to meet his wife, Betsy, but she was also very helpful (on the phone). We appreciate the opportunity to stay in their home."

  • Excellent choice for a weekend away

"Great cabin, beautiful inside with plenty of room for all 5 of us! A 10 minute hike/walk to the AT, plus several gorgeous Falls and the old AT. Minor Cons: no clear flat areas to set up yard games, pool table was decidedly warped, not much in the way of spices in the kitchen. Overall, a great time and I would rent it again."

Central Virginia Travel Tips

Central Virginia, the Birthplace of America

Choosing Central Virginia condos as bases for vacations puts visitors in a region that is known as the birthplace of America. With the first permanent settlement in Jamesburg in 1607 through its role in the Revolution and Civil War, it is an area of living history. Its major cities include Richmond, Charlottesville and Lynchburg. To get here, visitors fly to Richmond International Airport. You could also travel via the excellent interstate highways leading to Central Virginia, with I-64, I-95, I-295 and I-85 all providing access to the region, along with many state highways.

The weather of Virginia is often described as "Goldilocks Climate," being not too hot and not too cold. It is a humid, subtropical area with frosty winters and sometimes "sticky" during the height of summer.

Cities Full of History With the Mountains on the Doorstep

Richmond is home to history, arts, antiques, and culture. It is considered to be the birthplace of Black Capitalism with many sites honoring the role of African Americans in shaping the nation. Explore the Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site, the Black History Museum and the L. Douglas Wilder Library.

Charlottesville is a charming, centrally located city in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains; it is a great base for exploring the mountains. It has a wide range of museums, galleries and parks. History-lovers can visit Monticello, home to one of the nation’s best loved founders, Thomas Jefferson. It is also an ideal place for golf-lovers with several championship courses nearby. Set within an area with rivers and lakes, it is perfect for exploring, sailing, swimming and fishing. There are also sports such as kayaking, canoeing and tubing here. It’s a great mixture of adventure and relaxation.

Also in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains is Lynchburg, the city of Seven Hills. Central Virginia lodging is close to a variety of historic sites.

Trips around this region include the Civil War Trails that follow the route of the campaigns and battlefields through Richmond, Petersburg and Appomattox. Here, visitors should stop at the American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar, the Pamplin Historic Park and National Museum of the Civil War Soldier, and Appomattox Court House and National Historic Park.

Great Shopping, Great Food and Great Fun

The region around Central Virginia vacation rentals is a shopper’s paradise with a huge variety of shopping excursions available. Whether you are looking for antiques, crafts or even a present for a beloved pet, it is all here. The farmers' markets are full of wonderfully fresh, locally grown produce which is great to take back to your Central Virginia lodging for some fabulous meals.

Dining is a real pleasure to be undertaken in Central Virginia, with wonderful regional dishes such as country ham with grits to specialty ethnic restaurants. Perhaps a family buffet in a local diner, a country kitchen serving fried chicken, or a great place for BBQ fits your personal tastes. There is also five-star dining with unique menus and fabulous service in elegant surroundings.

The region is home to a great selection of days trips to zoos and theme parks, including the famous Busch Gardens, Williamsburg and Kings Dominion. Of special interest for children may be the Haunted Monster Museum and Dinosaur Kingdom and the indoor water park at Great Wolf Lodge. For animal-lovers, a trip to Infinity Acres Alpaca Farm is a wonderful opportunity to get up close with these beautiful, gentle animals.
