"Unplugged is a wonderful property on the beautiful island of Chincoteague. We spent Pony Penning Week there with our family of six adults and three children, ages ranging from 1 to 71 years old! We enjoyed the week in this wonderful house tremendously. The house has every amenity you need - bicycles, beach toys and chairs, crab pots and traps, and even a kayak - to make the most of your time outside. It also has plenty of games, puzzles, and comfy couches for napping and relaxing on Island time. The kitchen is easy to use and has every appliance we needed for fantastic family meals. (There's a wonderful produce place on Church Street, half a mile away, for fresh fruit and veggies. And His and Hers on Maddox sells live crabs and incredibly fresh seafood that satisfied even our incredible appetite for good seafood.)
Even without the famous ponies, there is plenty to do and see. We couldn't fit it all in. The property is within walking distance to Main Street for strolls in and out of all the cute shops. It's within short biking distance (a couple of miles) from Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge Center and Assateague Islands where there are lovely trails to walk, hike, and bike and beautiful, uncrowded beaches (compared to the Jersey shore) to spend your days swimming, sunbathing, and kite flying. Plus the wildlife is amazing.
My children, ages 7 and 10, had a wonderful time. They earned their junior park ranger badges and patches at the two National Park/Wildlife Refuge Centers, biked to their hearts' content, fished and crabbed for the first time (Jimmy at Captain Steve's Tackle Shop is super friendly and encouraging), and thoroughly enjoyed being unplugged.
The owners, Greg and Susan, couldn't have been more friendly or more accommodating. They answered our many questions and gave first rate recommendations. The house is in fantastic shape - just right for a week along the Eastern shore."
