It is located on the far southern end of the chain of barrier islands and can only be accessed by boat. The nearest boat launch is seven miles west at the town of Oyster. The Kiptopeke State Park is located three miles north of the Bay Bridge Tunnel. It offers birdwatching and wildlife viewing. The park also has camping grounds, a boat launch, recreational facilities and cabins. There are many small towns along the eastern shore that offer warm hospitality, great food and historic places of interest. One town well worth visiting is Parksley. The Railroad Square is surrounded by quaint shops and Victorian houses. Although the railway line no longer travels through town, you can still visit the restored railway station and the museum which has a collection of railroad memorabilia.

The favorite time of year for people to visit is during the warmer summer months. In mid-May, the season starts to warm and the balmy weather usually lasts until mid-September. If you are traveling from further afield, you can arrange to collect a rental vehicle upon arrival to use for the duration of your vacation.
