"Our group held a "living history" retreat for a dozen women at Eastover Manor, spending a delightful weekend basking in the atmosphere of the beautiful rooms and grounds, dressing in our 19th century clothes, eating "period" foods and enjoying period appropriate pastimes. The manor suited our needs so well---the decor was perfect, the rooms so pretty and comfortable, and the house large enough that we were able to enjoy both solitude and convivial company, as we would have done at a similar house party "back in the day." The peace and relative isolation of the setting added to the sense of being in another time. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and have talked about returning. The only thing that has led me to hold back that last star, unfortunately, was that there was a bit of an issue with house-keeping, particularly as regarded the kitchen. When I and my co-hostess arrived in the afternoon, the kitchen was in a fairly bad state, with food left from previous tenants left out, dirty work surfaces, dishes in the dishwasher and floors in need of sweeping. A cleaning crew arrived shortly after we did, and explained that there had been a mix up, but unfortunately, further inspection revealed more serious and clearly long-term neglect---we found (a lot of) rodent droppings in the lower kitchen cabinets, in the bathroom vanity next to the laundry room, and even inside a coffee pot! Cabinets were in such a disorganized state, and so crammed with miscellaneous, mostly useless, equipment and I felt I could not possibly prepare meals for 12 people for an entire weekend without pulling a bunch of stuff out, cleaning and re-arranging into some sort of practical order. Also, the the oven (filthy, along with the stove top and range hood) was missing one of the oven racks. We contacted management, but a replacement was never found, so we had to proceed as best we could, making getting meals on the table with everything hot at the same time something of a challenge. I struggled with whether or not to mention all of this in my review, because we were able to overcome the problems and I can honestly say it in no way spoiled our time, and overall we could hardly have been much happier with our stay. But I decided in the end that if I were the person in charge of this property I would wish to know of a any such problems so that I could fix them so that future guests could have an even better experience. I would not, and will not hesitate to recommend this property."
