  • Wonderful Easter Weekend

"We just spent a delightful Easter weekend at Fancy Fox farm. The place was perfect for 3 grandparents, 2 parents and one 9 year old boy. The property has many diversions, including exciting playground equipment for little ones & also a trampoline. There are opportunities for campfires, gator rides & hiking trails & of course the horses. For our young man however the only thing that mattered was the fishing lake from which he caught several fish that he fixed for supper. He was very proud of his bass. The property is beautiful & well maintained. All the flowering trees were in bloom including 2 huge old crabapple trees in wonderful pink blossoms. The house was very clean with comfortable beds & quality linens. The kitchen was well equipped with all basic utensils. The owner is very outgoing, friendly & accommodating. This is a place for relaxing. It is also near to enough attractions to keep you busy with day trips if you want to leave the farm for awhile. Highly recommended for multiple age groups. Although the first floor is accessible once you are inside, all entrances have at least one step, so would not work well for wheelchair bound people. Also the property is rolling hills, which if you are out of shape like we are, may cause some shortness of breath when walking."

  • The most beautiful venue for an intimate and romantic wedding!

"We rented Mt. Welby for our October 2013 wedding and all in all, it was a fabulous wedding despite the rainy weather. The grounds are so beautifully and lovingly maintained that we decided to hold the ceremony outside even though it had been raining all week. Luckily, the rain lightened up just before the ceremony and the gardens and woods in the background looked breathtaking, even mystical with the fog hanging low on the horizon. We moved the reception inside and the house was so cozy and comfortable enough for 50 people to hang out without feeling crowded. All our guests were charmed by the ambiance of Mount Welby and we are totally in love with the place and plan to go back often. Michel (the owner) was really easy to deal with and very accommodating and he made sure the house was ready for us, offering plenty of referrals for vendors and tips for making the most out of our stay. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a house with lots of character, yet providing modern comforts."

  • Relaxing Retreat with Incredible Views

"My third visit to the Play Garden did not disappoint. This place has something for everyone. You can spend the day lounging in the pool or just relaxing on the massive veranda overlooking the beautiful Shenandoah River. Those of the group who needed a more active stay, floated and kayaked down the river and hiked part of the historic Appalachian Trail. One of our days we ventured into Washington DC to sight see. It was an easy drive in and we were back with plenty of time to entertain guests with dinner on the porch. Delightful stay filled with great memories."

  • Really enjoyable stay

"We recently stayed at Hobby House and really enjoyed our time there. The house includes a garage where you can park your car, although it is a tight space, it's free parking. The house comes as advertised and we found if anything, the pictures on the website didn't do it justice, which is unusual. The kitchen was spacious and well equipped. There were plenty of bathrooms (3 for four people) and the house was lovingly restored. It was easy walking distance to a metro stop (about five minutes) and a close walk to old town Alexandria and its shops and restaurants was no more than a 10 minute walk away. It was an ideal location. The only complaints I had were minor. The bedrooms had doors but there was no privacy because there were open windows above each door, which I assume was for circulation. It was also a city house, so there was a lot of traffic noise and the third bedroom had a pullout sofa that wasn't all that comfortable, but overall we were very pleased with the location and would recommend it to anyone."
