  • A Weekend at Rest with Chickens, Goats and Flowers

"Our family of four (2 adults, 2 children ages 11 and 13) enjoyed a very relaxing weekend in the Farmhouse. It was clean and cozy especially with the wood burning fireplaces. The highlight of our stay was the interaction with the gentle animals. Our children fed the horses carrots and apples and the goats peanuts. The chickens, cats and dog kept us company as we roasted marshmallows for smores at the outdoor firepit. Our children collected eggs which our daughter used to bake a cake. Steve and Andrea were very welcoming and encouraged us to feel at home on the grounds. They even took the time to allow our children to assist in trimming the goats' nails, which was a fun and interesting experience. The gardens were filled with tall colorful flowers. For a relaxing and peaceful weekend in the country air, we highly recommend Cardinal Springs! Don't miss a tour of Copper Fox Distillery, a visit to the shops and restaurants of Culpeper and fresh apple cider at the many farmers markets/stands."

  • Lovely vacation getaway

"My husband & I truly enjoyed our stay. The studio apartment is about the size of a hotel room, and quite comfortable. The kitchen area was well-equipped with a fridge, microwave, toaster-oven, and a supply of dishes and cutlery. Linda even provided delicious muffins for our first breakfast - so thoughtful! Linda also compiled several binders full of local sightseeing information, including maps, coupons, and two re-fillable Metro cards. She also allowed us to use her washer/dryer mid-week, so we didn't have to pack so much. It's personal touches such as these that make us appreciate staying in a vacation rental over an impersonal chain hotel. The home is located in a scenic historic neighborhood, and we enjoyed looking at the variety of beautiful homes during our walk to the Metro. We'd walk down to the train station, and take the Metro up to DC for the day. In the evening we'd return to Alexandria where we'd hop on the free trolley and ride down King street until we saw a restaurant to try. The proximity to public transportation was a great plus - we decided to take the Amtrak train up from Florida because the Amtrak stop is the same as the Metro, and then flew home out of Reagan National which was just a couple Metro stops away. The only cautionary note I'll mention for future guests is the walk from the Metro to the apartment. It is uphill for most of the walk, which may be a bit of a challenge for some older folks. However, public transportation is readily available, and a taxi from the Metro station to the apartment only costs around $7 (including tip) if your feet hurt after a day of sightseeing! Thank you again, Linda & Willie, for sharing your hospitality and your studio apartment."

  • Perfect little home away from home

"My family of 4 (kids age 8 and 11) stayed at this precious little condo for a week while we toured DC. It was the perfect little home away from home. For such small square-footage, this condo felt much larger. The lay-out is great, with excellent storage space. It was a perfect space for the 4 of us to be able to spread out and enjoy our time. Everything was clean, well stocked, safe... we just loved it! And the neighborhood was just gorgeous and all the neighbors so friendly and helpful! The only issues we had here (which is in no way to the fault of the condo) was trying to figure out the buses. One day we had to leave really early, and the bus did not come according to schedule. One evening, we were to be out very late and the buses stopped servicing our area at 8. Simple fix, thanks to the advice of other reviewers here, was to drive to Capitol Mall, pay about $14 to park for the whole day, and take the metro rail in to the city. This VRBO definitely goes on my "favorites" list and if we ever decide to return, this is the place for us!"

  • An absolutely amazing time

"We didn't get to meet Peyton but, Kenny made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. The cottage was beautiful, the people were friendly and the food was wonderful. I can't wait to go back! Clarke & Cindy"
