  • Family Reunion

"My family gathered in this pretty cottage for a winter reunion. It was comfortable, nicely located and well equipped. We will definitely be back for a warm weather gathering this Spring."

  • "The Nest" at Front Royal

"We had a delightful visit to Front Royal for a nearby wedding. "The Nest" was the perfect comfortable home away from home for the 2 of us (although the house has 3 BR), tucked into a tranquil forested hill. Lee is the consummate hostess, leaving us thorough information about the house/community, wine/snacks in the frig, and an open invitation to enjoy their lovely property. Very clean and well-furnished with all you need. Location is near north entry to Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park where we enjoyed hiking."

  • Wonderful experience

"This property inside and out was beautiful. We had plenty of room for our family of four (three adults and one 16-year-old). Beds were super comfortable, kitchen had everything we needed. Screened in porch was perfect for drinking coffee in the morning. Beautiful backyard to relax in after a long day of sightseeing. Jim and Lisa were super friendly and helpful, the perfects hosts. Short, easy drive to Washington DC. I highly recommend Granny's Cottage!"

  • A great value for the price and for the DC area.

"We selected the Cottage because we wanted to be near Old Town, Alexandria. The price was exceptional compared to local hotels. We also wanted the ability to make some of our own meals rather than eat out all the time. In terms of being a great value for the price, the Cottage is hard to beat. The description of the Cottage is very accurate and you should set your expectations accordingly. The Cottage is not luxurious, but it is clean, quiet, and has everything you need to be comfortable. It is fine for two people. The upstairs bedroom has enough space when the daybed is closed. The daybed is trundle style; once you pull it out to full king-size, it does take up most of the room, so just be prepared for that. Still, the bed itself is very comfortable. The adjoining bathroom is small but adequate, with a great shower and a window overlooking a nice yard. A winding staircase leads down to a fully equipped kitchen and a small table for two. The downstairs also offers access to the backyard. The property is well maintained. You have your own separate entrance and a parking space right outside the door, which is a real plus. Located in a lovely, quiet residential area, the Cottage is an enjoyable 10-minute walk through a nice neighborhood to reach King Street. We did it several times in the evenings and felt perfectly safe. You will be at the end of King Street, right near the Metro stop, which is the best way to get around DC. There is also a Metro transportation office next door to the Embassy Suites hotel across the street from the station. Here you can get day passes for the Metro, a good idea if you plan to make multiple stops around town. One of the best services offered by Alexandria is the free trolley that runs along King Street all the way to the waterfront. Hop on and off anytime until about 10 PM. It will save you a lot of walking. Needless to say, the shops and restaurants along King Street and close by are wonderful, and it is so much nicer to stay in this quaint village-like area rather than in downtown DC or other nearby cities. Here's a tip: If you're a Crate and Barrel fan, there is a Crate and Barrel outlet store not far from the King Street Metro. Jack is a gracious host. He leaves goodies for you in the refrigerator and provides lots of information about local sights, restaurants, etc. There are plenty of TV channels, as well as DVDs and books. The Cottage is a great cost-effective alternative to an expensive hotel room."
