"We stayed with 2 adults and 2 kids (11 and 13 years) a total of 10 days at Richards Condo and enjoyed our vacation very much. Being close to the interstate 395 and Route 7 gave us the opportunity to reach everything (from the Great Falls or Mount Vernon to Downtown D.C.) in no time. There is a Safeway and a little shopping Mall few minutes drive away, but also a little store close by provides everything you need urgently. The spectacular view by day and night towards THE MALL in DC was a real treat. Parking place was very generously provided and we truly enjoyed the nice swimming pool in the afternoon. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed to provide hot and cold meals and we made good use of that. It is a perfect place to stay and explore the metropolitain area and return whenever you feel to a place you can call "home away from home"."

"This is a perfect place to stay if you are looking for a backwoods country "get away from the city" experience. The house is in great condition and I have yet to come across a more fully stocked kitchen. Our hosts were fabulous and did not complain when we got locked out and had to knock on their door at 11 pm at night. There is a new hot tub, which was perfect after a long hike on a trail right outside the door. The nearest grocery store is 30 miles out, but we didn't mind the drive into town to pick up supplies. We found the Griffin Tavern in Little Washington to be fabulous! I am not a big fan of Virginia wine, but there is plenty of great beer to be found and the people in the area are so nice. It was about an 80 minute drive to DC. Highly recommend this spot!"

"My three best friends and I travelled from our respective towns for a retreat at this lovely historic home. It felt like home, thanks to Barbara and Ray. Upon arrival, it was obvious that the gardens and home are lovingly cared for. Barbara provided wonderful breakfast food, including fresh strawberries! She made dinner reservations for us and sent perfect recommendations for activities. My friends and I recommend this property enthusiastically! Guests should be aware that three of the bedrooms are on the second floor and the staircase is steep and narrow. It could be a problem, depending on age and physical condition."

"We selected the Cottage because we wanted to be near Old Town, Alexandria. The price was exceptional compared to local hotels. We also wanted the ability to make some of our own meals rather than eat out all the time.
In terms of being a great value for the price, the Cottage is hard to beat. The description of the Cottage is very accurate and you should set your expectations accordingly. The Cottage is not luxurious, but it is clean, quiet, and has everything you need to be comfortable. It is fine for two people. The upstairs bedroom has enough space when the daybed is closed. The daybed is trundle style; once you pull it out to full king-size, it does take up most of the room, so just be prepared for that. Still, the bed itself is very comfortable. The adjoining bathroom is small but adequate, with a great shower and a window overlooking a nice yard. A winding staircase leads down to a fully equipped kitchen and a small table for two. The downstairs also offers access to the backyard. The property is well maintained. You have your own separate entrance and a parking space right outside the door, which is a real plus.
Located in a lovely, quiet residential area, the Cottage is an enjoyable 10-minute walk through a nice neighborhood to reach King Street. We did it several times in the evenings and felt perfectly safe. You will be at the end of King Street, right near the Metro stop, which is the best way to get around DC. There is also a Metro transportation office next door to the Embassy Suites hotel across the street from the station. Here you can get day passes for the Metro, a good idea if you plan to make multiple stops around town.
One of the best services offered by Alexandria is the free trolley that runs along King Street all the way to the waterfront. Hop on and off anytime until about 10 PM. It will save you a lot of walking. Needless to say, the shops and restaurants along King Street and close by are wonderful, and it is so much nicer to stay in this quaint village-like area rather than in downtown DC or other nearby cities. Here's a tip: If you're a Crate and Barrel fan, there is a Crate and Barrel outlet store not far from the King Street Metro.
Jack is a gracious host. He leaves goodies for you in the refrigerator and provides lots of information about local sights, restaurants, etc. There are plenty of TV channels, as well as DVDs and books. The Cottage is a great cost-effective alternative to an expensive hotel room."
