"We selected the Cottage because we wanted to be near Old Town, Alexandria. The price was exceptional compared to local hotels. We also wanted the ability to make some of our own meals rather than eat out all the time.
In terms of being a great value for the price, the Cottage is hard to beat. The description of the Cottage is very accurate and you should set your expectations accordingly. The Cottage is not luxurious, but it is clean, quiet, and has everything you need to be comfortable. It is fine for two people. The upstairs bedroom has enough space when the daybed is closed. The daybed is trundle style; once you pull it out to full king-size, it does take up most of the room, so just be prepared for that. Still, the bed itself is very comfortable. The adjoining bathroom is small but adequate, with a great shower and a window overlooking a nice yard. A winding staircase leads down to a fully equipped kitchen and a small table for two. The downstairs also offers access to the backyard. The property is well maintained. You have your own separate entrance and a parking space right outside the door, which is a real plus.
Located in a lovely, quiet residential area, the Cottage is an enjoyable 10-minute walk through a nice neighborhood to reach King Street. We did it several times in the evenings and felt perfectly safe. You will be at the end of King Street, right near the Metro stop, which is the best way to get around DC. There is also a Metro transportation office next door to the Embassy Suites hotel across the street from the station. Here you can get day passes for the Metro, a good idea if you plan to make multiple stops around town.
One of the best services offered by Alexandria is the free trolley that runs along King Street all the way to the waterfront. Hop on and off anytime until about 10 PM. It will save you a lot of walking. Needless to say, the shops and restaurants along King Street and close by are wonderful, and it is so much nicer to stay in this quaint village-like area rather than in downtown DC or other nearby cities. Here's a tip: If you're a Crate and Barrel fan, there is a Crate and Barrel outlet store not far from the King Street Metro.
Jack is a gracious host. He leaves goodies for you in the refrigerator and provides lots of information about local sights, restaurants, etc. There are plenty of TV channels, as well as DVDs and books. The Cottage is a great cost-effective alternative to an expensive hotel room."

"We stayed with 2 adults and 2 kids (11 and 13 years) a total of 10 days at Richards Condo and enjoyed our vacation very much. Being close to the interstate 395 and Route 7 gave us the opportunity to reach everything (from the Great Falls or Mount Vernon to Downtown D.C.) in no time. There is a Safeway and a little shopping Mall few minutes drive away, but also a little store close by provides everything you need urgently. The spectacular view by day and night towards THE MALL in DC was a real treat. Parking place was very generously provided and we truly enjoyed the nice swimming pool in the afternoon. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed to provide hot and cold meals and we made good use of that. It is a perfect place to stay and explore the metropolitain area and return whenever you feel to a place you can call "home away from home"."

"My sister and I were looking for a weekend getaway from the city. This cabin was absolutely perfect. We loved that there was no wifi and spent our time outdoors in local activities or sitting on the cabin deck and looking for bears. The cabin has everything you might need including nice touches such as coffee filters and dish soap/sponge. We only needed to bring any food that we wanted to eat. The beds were super comfortable with ample pillows, nice sheets, and firm mattresses. The cabin itself is quite charming; the pictures didn't do it justice. Checking in and out was easy and well managed. Bonny was quick to respond to emails."

"Wow. The Play Garden in early spring: there never was such a sweet place, clad in the fragrance and soft beauty of mid-April in the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah Valley. It was cold when we arrived. No matter. We felt warm and loved. We watched as winter was shed a little more each day, and wild flowers bloomed and trees greened. There was much to do around the neighborhood, and we especially enjoyed several visits to Art at the Mill (Burwell-Morgan Mill in nearby Millwood). Old and new friends joined us during our ten-day stay, and they promptly fell in love with The Play Garden. Who can blame them? We will return."
