  • Relaxing Stay near Old Rag

"Our family spent about ten days at Hazel Mt. Haven this summer. The house is spacious and airy, with high ceilings and lots of windows. We specially enjoyed relaxing on the large deck. The kitchen and bathrooms were well-equipped with lots of dishes, silverware and towels etc, which worked well for us as we had friends and relatives visit us during our stay. Even with the extra people the house did not seem crowded. The location is lovely, with views of Old Rag and the sounds of the Hazel River nearby. Dick and Judy were great hosts, very helpful and accommodating. We can highly recommend this house - it is a great getaway in Rappahannock County."

  • A Cozy Get Away

"We stayed as a couple for a couple days in the pond suite in the wintertime. One beautiful day to hike Old Rag and a rainy day to visit the wineries and local life. It's a really nice get away. Practically everything you need is there. The animals are all around, chickens, goats, horses and all, making it quite peaceful. Enjoyed the fireplaces and the wood supply. A couple finer points, like almost everything you need is there, but then some things aren't like, dish washing liquid or sugar, which we didn't think to bring. And the chickens lay eggs every day but you have to buy them if you want them. For the overall cost per night, it would just be nice to be able to say everything is there that you need and you can almost say that. But it's 99% there so it's not a deal breaker, just nice touches that would be appreciated. Also a lot of rules about leaving. Do this, do that, start a load of towels or sheets. We left it very clean and did all that, but felt like usually you only do all this when staying with friends, and friends don't really charge you do they. But this is all sounding too negative when overall, you get a wonderful setting, beautiful views and great attractions close by. We had a wonderful time and are maybe more critical than we should be. To each there own. We would stay there again for sure."

  • a week with the kids

"This year I decided to step out and take my two kids 9 and 13 on a bit of a different adventure. we live in DC and usually go to the beach but I decided to go to the mountains this year. This little House was perfect for us.. It had all the little amenities to make it enjoyable a refrigerator with coffees and fresh milk and crème.. With owners help we found various adventuresome things to do, from hiking to riding...Mornings were spent relaxing and waiting for a little hummingbird to make his appearance. All in all exceeded expectations..."
