  • Wonderful Family Vacation.

"The cabin was everything we expected and more. It was well furnished and spacious and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. We enjoyed many mornings and evenings out on the deck listening to the sounds of nature and taking in the splendid views. We had a very small issue while staying at the cabin which was resolved immediately. We explored Luray caverns, Shenandoah national park, Lake Arrowhead, and splashed about in the Shenandoah River. The cabin seemed secluded and provided a great base to explore. We would definitely recommend The Bear's Den."

  • Very Relaxing

"We had a very relaxing time while staying at Hensley Hollow Lodge. Mornings were spent on the deck, overlooking the valley, with our coffee/tea and books. The days were spent in the Shenandoah National Forest, hiking. The evenings were spent on the deck, again, watching the family of dear wandering around the front yard. We had a daily visit from a hummingbird, checking up on us, I guess, to ensure we were having a good time. At night we would pop in a movie and cook up some popcorn in the stove top pop corn maker. Everyone had a really enjoyable time."

  • Our visit was awesome!

"We truly enjoyed ourselves at the cottage. Our 2 young boys loved the pond, and exploring the woods. It was very peaceful and the wildlife is remarkable! We will visit again!"

  • The Cliffhanger at Massanutten

"We oohed and aahed as soon as we walked into the home. One whole wall is floor to ceiling windows overlooking the slopes. This main floor living room is large, open to the dining room and kitchen and was the main gathering place for our family of 11 ranging in age from 1 to 70. I loved that even when I was in the kitchen, I was still with everyone. We were all able to sit at the table together. There is also a loft and downstairs rec area which some of us used occassionally. The bedrooms are large with doors to the wrap- around decks and closets so large that our kids put port-a-cribs in them and used them as nurseries for the babies. There are four full baths so each adult couple had their own bath and there was another that was shared by the teens. Perfect. The owners supply all the basics (some places I looked at don't even supply towels) and give you a list in advance of things you might want to bring. They are very easy to talk to and had my deposit in the mail even before we got home. We had the best time. The owners even had a Christmas tree there for us. The weather was cold enough for them to make snow on the slopes but warm enough that we didn't have to deal with ice or snow on the roads. The access road to the house is very steep and I do think it might have been a problem for our little rental car and this aging Floridian. Our kids seemed much less concerned. The resort is impressive. We had debated between Wintergreen and this and this was by far the better choice for us. Although every one skied the first few days and loved it, we had rain the morning of our last day. Those in our party that are less that avid skiers relished the chance to go to the water park. (Bring towels- they don't rent them) There is so much to do in addition to skiing (see the website) and there is always that possibility of less than perfect skiing conditions. One thing I didn't see on the website but was great was a ski program for 4 to 11 year olds that runs from 8:30 - 1:30. - One instructor for six kids of the same age. Our 4 yr. old grandson loved it and was skiing by day 2. Although in advance, the vote on where to go was divided, after our visit, it was unanimous to return to Massanutten next year."
