  • The Cliffhanger at Massanutten

"We oohed and aahed as soon as we walked into the home. One whole wall is floor to ceiling windows overlooking the slopes. This main floor living room is large, open to the dining room and kitchen and was the main gathering place for our family of 11 ranging in age from 1 to 70. I loved that even when I was in the kitchen, I was still with everyone. We were all able to sit at the table together. There is also a loft and downstairs rec area which some of us used occassionally. The bedrooms are large with doors to the wrap- around decks and closets so large that our kids put port-a-cribs in them and used them as nurseries for the babies. There are four full baths so each adult couple had their own bath and there was another that was shared by the teens. Perfect. The owners supply all the basics (some places I looked at don't even supply towels) and give you a list in advance of things you might want to bring. They are very easy to talk to and had my deposit in the mail even before we got home. We had the best time. The owners even had a Christmas tree there for us. The weather was cold enough for them to make snow on the slopes but warm enough that we didn't have to deal with ice or snow on the roads. The access road to the house is very steep and I do think it might have been a problem for our little rental car and this aging Floridian. Our kids seemed much less concerned. The resort is impressive. We had debated between Wintergreen and this and this was by far the better choice for us. Although every one skied the first few days and loved it, we had rain the morning of our last day. Those in our party that are less that avid skiers relished the chance to go to the water park. (Bring towels- they don't rent them) There is so much to do in addition to skiing (see the website) and there is always that possibility of less than perfect skiing conditions. One thing I didn't see on the website but was great was a ski program for 4 to 11 year olds that runs from 8:30 - 1:30. - One instructor for six kids of the same age. Our 4 yr. old grandson loved it and was skiing by day 2. Although in advance, the vote on where to go was divided, after our visit, it was unanimous to return to Massanutten next year."

  • Perfect Birthday Celebration Weekend!

"We loved this house! We rented it to celebrate my husband's birthday and are so glad we did. The owners did everything to make our stay just right; from the quick email responses to the great recommendations of things to do. The house was decorated so cool; not your ordinary mountain rental property. It was clean and had absolutely everything we needed. We felt right at home. The floor to celing windows truly make the view and relaxing setting. The hot tub is perfect too. The area is great for things to do year round or to simply relax. The proximity to JMU makes it easy for our two oldest children to join us. We will definitely be back to stay again!"

  • Great vacation house

"My extended family from toddlers to an octogenarian had a wonderful week at Le Chalet. The large living room and downstairs game room gave us plenty of space to gather as a group or to find some separation occasionally. The kitchen is very well appointed and had everything we needed to cook meals for 11 people. Beautiful remodeled bathrooms. There's lots to do in the vicinity including a super water park, historic sites and a chance to hike the Appalachian Trail."

  • Simple pleasures

"We love it!!! From the beginning the owners (Christian) was in good contact. He was polite and sent over information as needed and required. From the outside the home is simple but the inside is just what we loved. There is nothing extravagant about the home but the layout is made for vacationers and the space is absolutely plenty. The option to watch the game in one living room and play games in another is absolutely A plus! 14 ladies went and we had a fantastic time. The home is more than enough for such a large group. The seclusion is just enough for the laughter and loud outburst which came out of playing taboo; yet close enough to not feel alone!!! The cool thing about the house is that many basic necessities were included. Such as dish washing liquid, laundry detergent, toilet paper. Even though we brought some it was nice to have that available. There were minor issues which are repairable things but they in no way hindered our vacation. Things such as slow bathroom drains. Actually that was it!!! The steep driveway was a bit scary to myself and some but we made it work. Thank you Christian and the other owners for allow us to stay. The best part was the rate! I absolutely recommend this home."

History and Caverns Near Massanutten Resort Condos

Several battles of the Civil War were fought in the area of the Shenandoah Valley. It is also filled with the rich history of the Brethren and Mennonite settlers that came here from Pennsylvania. Today, guests of Massanutten Resort condos can take tours of the Hardesty-Higgins House, Valley Brethren-Mennonite Heritage Center or the Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrisonburg. If guests would like to take a driving tour of the area, they can pick up audio CDs at the visitor center in Harrisonburg.

Spelunkers can enjoy the Endless Caverns in New Market which features chambers such as Snowdrift, Grand Canyon and Fairyland. Guided tours here last about an hour and a half and picnicking is encouraged. You can pack yourself a lunch from your condo’s kitchen and savor a day checking out the various caves. Other caves in the area are the Shenandoah Caverns that have been open since 1922. This cavern area also has many chambers to explore as well as fault lines in the ceilings because they were formed by earthquake movement.

Shenandoah National Park extends along the Blue Ridge Parkway for about 105 miles and is open all year long. Visitors to the park can hike, ride on horseback and picnic while taking in the fantastic scenery.
