"My wife and I are from Minnesota. In search of a more moderate climate, we decided to winter in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Quietude was the perfect getaway, exceeding all of our expectations. We felt comfortable in Elizabeth's lovely, country home the moment we stepped through the front door. Quietude is more folksy than fancy, on 1.5 acre, surrounded by rolling farmlands. Comfortable and well equipped, especially the kitchen, the home is tastfully decorated with antiques and the impressive, local and travel inspired art from the hand of the owner.
We spent January and February in the Valley and loved every minute of our time there. Quietude is located in Mt. Sydney perhaps 15 miles from the 25,000 population town of Staunton. I have always lived in large, urban areas but found plenty to do and everything we needed in the area. Staunton is very cosmopolitan for a small town. There are a variety of great eateries, coffee shops, antique shops, specialty food and wine shops, galleries, amazing architecture in an area rich with history and local culture. The Shenandoah has long been an incubator for bluegrass, country and blues and the area is teaming with musicians and music venues. And, there is world class hiking and outdoors fun everywhere in the mountains and surrounding wilderness.
Our winter in Virginia was everything we hoped for. We had several visitors during our stay and they all loved the house and area. We cooked up a storm, hiked, bar hopped, walked our dogs in wonderful Gypsy Hill Park, met and played music with friendly locals, and yes, Virginia is for lovers. Quietude is a great romantic getaway. Elizabeth, the owner who we have never actually met, was a great resource and always responsive to our e-mail questions our two month stay was the longest getaway we had ever take. I would absolutely recommend Quietude to anyone seeking a relaxed, laid-back holiday. Our time at Quietude has filled us with priceless memories. We love the place and hope to return soon."
