  • Relaxing at the River House

"The River House was everything we hoped for and so much more. Imagine waking to the sounds of birds and water flowing in the river right outside your door. Bring your food and enjoy communing with nature. The hot tub was great after a day tubing or hiking. The fire pit prompted stories and subsequent laughter. And the best part was watching our grandsons play and explore and not even miss their electronic devices! On the drive home, the boys said, "can we come back again next year?". Absolutely!"

  • Getaway with 16 year old grandson

"This past week I spent four days in Mountain Whisper with my 16 year old grandson. He is high functioning asperger. We were quite pleased with our experience. The cabin was an excellent base camp as we fished, took the Luray Cavern tour, hiked, and found isolated areas to teach him how to shoot using my pellet rifle. Shenandoah River Outfitters is just down the hill from the cabin and the variety of their rentals should support most desires to spend time on the river. The cabin was immaculate when we arrived and the kitchen was very well stocked with eating and cooking utensils. It was not what I would have expected in a cabin - the appliances were in excellent condition - well honestly, i don't know if the stove worked because as two guys we didn't cook much indoors, but the microwave and refrigerator were excellent. I have seen several reviews on various sites commenting on the bed being only "full" size. The smaller of the 3 bedrooms has a full size bed but the other beds are definitely queen size. I rate my experience as 5 stars, not because it is the best cabin I have ever stayed in but because the cabin was exactly what my grandson and I needed and it met all expectations based on the various website descriptions. My grandson was especially happy having civilization (Walmart) relatively close by and he would recommend MIndi's for their chips and salsa. Jim D."

  • excellent place for a family long week end

"All amenities were working as described on the website: AC/hot tub, canoes, bikes, ... In addition, the kitchen is well equipped and all was made to have a nice stay there. We went there with another family for a long week end. The place is large enough with two aisles, each with bathrooms and bedrooms: one for each family. Also, the managers were very flexible, allowing for a change in the dates/place just one day prior to arrival, at no extra cost. We could also benefit from a late check out, as no other guests were expected on that day."

"Absolutely beautiful views and a great house. Sitting on the porch watching the sun set below the mountains to the west was breath taking on a perfect day in May. The only sound to be heard was the rocking chair creaking under me. Drove up the gravel road in a regular sedan and it was no problem at all. If you need a break from hectic, this is the perfect retreat."
