  • Weekend Getaway

"My husband and I recently stayed here last month (October) for a weekend getaway. We were attending a wedding at a Vineyard close by and decided to make it a 3 day weekend. We LOVED this cabin! It was perfect for the two of us. Very secluded and quiet. We got much needed rest and the view from the balcony off the Blue Ridge room is gorgeous! We hope to go back."

  • Perfect Vacation Spot

"Alford's getaway by far has to be one of the best houses we ever rented. It was so clean, very well equipped and exactly as it appeared. Betty was so wonderful to deal with and we were in constant communication. I would definitely rent again. Having everything we could ask for made a great time for all of us. Thank you for opening your house to us."

  • Clean & relaxing

"The House was clean upon arrival and in a quiet neighborhood on a secluded lot. The access is only 2 steps up at the front, which is great for elderly dogs! The lot is level and lake front with great access for boating/canoes/fishing. The interior is laid out well for multiple family groups to allow privacy (we had 3 family groups), the Kitchen is well stocked -had a great Thanksgiving dinner. The only down side was the steep stair climb to the loft for a group movie night, as the only "common area" TV is on this second level. Only TV on the first floor is in the Master BR & the 3rd is upstairs in the Kids bedroom. But overall, the property is a great spot for relaxing, enjoying the Lake & getting to other surrounding communities for some sightseeing. The Owners are courteous and helpful from the initial reservation process to the final checkout and follow up."

  • Great Place to Stay!

"The owners were very easy to work with and the property is clean, well-maintained, and exactly as advertised (and very well equipped including dishwasher and washer/dryer). We had a teenager with us and he loved the loft bedroom upstairs. Having one full bathroom for each bedroom is a plus and the small den with futon can serve as a fourth bedroom. As the pictures suggest it has a great view, and is also very close to the bike rental shop and start of the Virginia Creeper trail. Highly recommended for cyclists, among others. Would stay here again if we are up this way. A great experience!"

Virginia Travel Tips

Seasons to Visit Virginia Vacation Rentals

Virginia is considered an all-year destination; however, each year most travelers choose to visit Virginia during the summer months. Perhaps this is because of the beautiful beaches, the extensive mountain trails, or the many musical events that happen throughout summer. Along the coastal regions, it can get particularly humid during July and August. Further inland and in the mountainous areas, the air is a little drier and the temperatures milder. This is ideal for outdoor activities and explorations. In effect, Virginia has almost five different climatic regions. In the wintertime, you may be skiing in the mountains one day and playing golf the next in another part of Virginia. In general, there is about a 10-degree temperature difference between the coastal and mountain regions.

Visitors to Virginia Condos

If you have an interest in American and Civil War history, you will find many places in Virginia to visit. In some ways, it is at the heart of American history. The first permanent English settlement was in Jamestown, founded in 1607. In later years, Virginia was the location of many conflicts and resolutions. Throughout the state, you will find monuments and museums that make a grand effort at preserving the history of the nation. Travelers who enjoy exploring the outdoors will be spoiled for choice in terms of activities and places to visit. The western and southwestern mountain areas have miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Many of these trails can also be explored on horseback. Golfers have a number of top quality golf courses to choose from in Virginia. Many families enjoy their annual vacation along Virginia's coastline. There are also many fishing and boating activities available on Virginia's many rivers and lakes. In the winter months, skiing enthusiasts can enjoy miles of trails in the Appalachian Mountains. Ski resorts have groomed trails to cater to all levels of skiing abilities. Several resorts also have snowboarding terrain parks and cross country skiing trails.

Getting to Virginia Lodging

Many travelers to Virginia are from the neighboring states or major East Coast cities. Virginia is easily accessible by road as there are many well-maintained interstate highways. The distances between the different regions are not vast and this makes it an ideal vacation destination. If you are traveling from further afield, you will most likely fly into one of the airports in the Washington DC area. The largest major airport near northern Virginia vacation rentals is the Washington Dulles International Airport. This airport hosts a large number of international and regional airlines. There are regular commercial flight connections with major cities in the United States, Canada and Europe. Other alternative airports are the Ronald Reagan National Airport and the Baltimore Washington International Airport. If you are travelling domestically within the state, the best airport for the eastern coastal region is Norfolk International Airport. This airport provides easy access to the coastal resort towns of Virginia Beach, Hampton and Norfolk. When you arrive, you can rent a car or make use of the local public transport systems to explore. An alternate way to get around is by train. The Virginia Railway Express runs between most major cities and towns.

Vacation Rentals in Virginia

There are a wide range of vacation rental homes available in Virginia. Comparatively speaking, it is one of the more affordable vacation accommodation options, especially if you are traveling with your family. You can find cozy Wintergreen cabins tucked away in the mountains or enjoy spacious Virginia Beach vacation rentals overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The homes are generally comfortable and stylishly furnished. It's a place that you can make your home away from home while on vacation.
