The Cascade Mountains extend south from British Columbia throughout Washington State and fall into three distinct areas. Nearby, Snoqualmie is close to the John Wayne Trail as well as the famous Snoqualmie Falls. It has a casino, Rattlesnake Lake, and great ski slopes in the winter.

The Southern Cascades include the impressive snow-capped volcanoes of Mount Adams, Mount Rainier and Mount St. Helens, famous for "blowing its top" in 1980 and producing a cloud of ash which carried around the world. There are a number of visitor centers around Mount St. Helens which offer guided walks, lectures from rangers and excellent films about the history and geology of the area.

The nearest airport to the Washington Cascade Mountains is the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport which is a couple of hours by car from most parts of the Cascades. The area is also easy to drive to from the I-5 which lies to the west of the area.

In the winter, there are countless opportunities for snowmobiling, alpine and cross country skiing, snowshoeing and sledding, although many of the passes and minor roads are closed due to the heavy snowfall.
