  • Peaceful

"The place is very peaceful and has a great view. The neighbor (caretakers) are far enough away and quiet that you feel totally alone, especially after driving the dirt road to the place at night. If it wasn't obvious, the place is a bit out of the way, but not insanely so. I windsurf and the drive to Swell or the Hatchery are only about 20 minutes away. Not bad. It might be frustrating if you forget a grocery item though. All the amenities are there but we couldn't use the fireplace because of no-burning in effect. If it's hot, there is only 1 window unit in 1 of the bedrooms so just a word of caution on that. There are also no window coverings but if you're an early riser, that should not be a problem. I did not check the 55+ category because of the dim lighting in some of the rooms and, especially the stairway. I really enjoyed my stay there and would certainly recommend the place for just about anyone doing anything from being active to staying there and reading all day which I did most mornings."

  • Perfect for the Very Young and Not so Young!!!

"There were 4 generations of us who stayed here, from a 3 year old cousin to my almost 90 yr old uncle. All of us were thrilled with the spectacular views at any time of day. My young cousin was thrilled to have "my own big bed" when sleeping in the alcove that adjoins one of the queen bedrooms. And my uncle enjoyed his first experience with a hot tub. We were in Stevenson to attend a wedding at Skamania Lodge, but found this house the perfect location to take in many of the other attractions in the area, e.g river cruise, wine and beer tasting, hiking. Lots of "extras" here--including games and books for young and old, a pet bowl, hot tub, spaces to congregate or for quiet time. We are hoping to come back next year to celebrate the wedding anniversary. Thanks so much Ron and Sue!!!"

  • Columbia River condo

"The layout, decor and amenities of this condo are excellent. It is less than 2 blocks walking distance from several restaurants and a coffee/ice cream shop, as well as the paved trail along the river. Inside the condo, my favorite part is the closets. Each one has beautiful and functional shelving, drawers, and hangers. The kitchen is very well stocked with appliances and gadgets, as well as many spices, coffee, tea, etc. The only negative about the condo is the noise level outside. The flight path into and out of the airport is along the river and the train tracks are a block away. For those who are bothered by these I would recommend earplugs. Overall this is a great place to stay in Vancouver."

  • Great Family Home

"This home is set up beautifully for families. There are plenty of beds, games and activities to keep all ages happy. The kitchen is stocked nicely with pantry staples. The only complaint I have is the pots and pans are not up to standard for my cooking! Everything stuck to the pans!! We stayed here because of the uniqueness of the bridge and rail traffic. It added a whole new element of adventure for my husband and 4 children. Even though the tracks run fairly close to the home, you don't hear trains inside because they are moving so fast, and never blow their horns(unless your children are encouraging them from atop the bridge!) The home has a gorgeous view of the gorge, and we never saw the caretaker, even though his home is right next to the main house. We drove the 30 minute drive to Hood River and spent the day doing the Mt. Hood Railroad, Polar Express, Andrews Pizza, Air Museum, and Fruit Loop. It is a pet friendly home, with a basket by the front door with pet supplies, towels to wipe paws, and what not. We didn't bring our dog, but it was very thoughtful."
