  • Peaceful

"The place is very peaceful and has a great view. The neighbor (caretakers) are far enough away and quiet that you feel totally alone, especially after driving the dirt road to the place at night. If it wasn't obvious, the place is a bit out of the way, but not insanely so. I windsurf and the drive to Swell or the Hatchery are only about 20 minutes away. Not bad. It might be frustrating if you forget a grocery item though. All the amenities are there but we couldn't use the fireplace because of no-burning in effect. If it's hot, there is only 1 window unit in 1 of the bedrooms so just a word of caution on that. There are also no window coverings but if you're an early riser, that should not be a problem. I did not check the 55+ category because of the dim lighting in some of the rooms and, especially the stairway. I really enjoyed my stay there and would certainly recommend the place for just about anyone doing anything from being active to staying there and reading all day which I did most mornings."

  • Beautiful location, very comfortable accommodation -- but the trains

"We stayed at the Riverhouse two nights (5/23 and 5/24/14). The house itself is marvelous, the view unbelievable. There are two coves nearby that we enjoyed. The house is pet friendly, and our golden retriever certainly enjoyed being there, especially getting to swim in the coves. The property is mostly fenced, which helped with the dog. However, if it were my property I would want to let renters know that the railroad is right outside the fenced area, and trains come by several times, day and night (last night there were at least 5 trains), including at least one that appeared to be a train hauling crude oil. I know there's nothing that the owner can do about that, but I do think that it's worth mentioning to a potential renter. The fence does not fully enclose the property, so pets and children need to be monitored. You need to cross two sets of tracks leading to the property, and given the numbers of trains, one needs to be very diligent about crossing the tracks. There's lots to see and do in the immediate area. Again, it's a beautiful, historical area, but as far as I'm concerned, the train is an issue and a potential renter should be informed. Not sure I would stay there again, only because of the train. Just too loud (and the house even shook)."

  • Great Rental in a Great Area!

"We were a group of nine seniors looking for adventure in the Sun, we found it. This beautiful farmhouse not only provided all the accommodations needed for an enjoyable vacation (fully stocked kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, dining area, and a combo reading/living room) but it is located in the perfect setting. Mount Adams stands out north of the farmhouse (climbing trailhead 45 min. drive); the Town of Trout Lake is only a 5 min drive away with a gas station, store, USFS Ranger Station, sports bars, etc. The Columbia River Gorge is a 30 min drive to the south. We found the local roads provided great bide riding, hundreds of miles of great hiking trails are close at hand, cave exploring, fishing, river rides, and the list goes on. Back to the farmhouse! Besides having great accommodations, it also has very interesting antiques and the yard surrounding the farmhouse offers a covered outbuilding for dinners, fire pit (firewood provided), horse shoe pit, large mowed yard, scattered seating, antique farm equipment, and much more. This Craftsman farmhouse offers cover porches which our group very much enjoyed at the end of the day. Our seven day visit passed by very quickly. Genevieve was a great host and our group very much wants to return next year."

  • Cozy, rustic cabin on the White Salmon River

"This is the perfect place to enjoy the sights and sounds of the White Salmon River. We loved eating by candlelight on the screened in porch, reading on the deck, and watching the rafters during the day! This is a beautiful spot close to great hiking and biking trails, orchards and vineyards, and picturesque towns."
