"My husband and I had a wonderful time at Shep's Castle....a great place to unplug from computer, TV, and life's stresses and get rejuvenated (however, there is a DVD player and lots of movies to watch which was great). The cabin was perfect for our romantic getaway but would be great for a family bonding vacation too. Although there are other homes on the road, since the cabin has trees on both sides and the Hood Canal to the front, we felt completely secluded and it was so quiet, we felt like we were in the middle of no where, which was just what we needed. One morning we saw a mama and two babies seals floating by while eating breakfast. Also, gorgeous Lake Cushman is just a short drive away with lots of hiking trails. I definitely hope to return and have already recommended it to friends and family. Since the cabin is pet friendly, we were able to take our furry babies and they enjoyed it immensely! The cabin was very clean and well stocked with dishes, pots, pans, and everything you need to cook. I can't say enough good things about Shep's Castle! :) No complaints here! :) The only thing I would mention, if a family stayed there or two couples and were wanting some "alone time", there are no doors on the bedrooms."

"With temperatures in the 90’s it seemed like a prefect weekend to head to Hood Canal. Starfish Studio Cottage was perfect. The cabin’s interior is dark because of the paneling but once the many wonderful windows are thrown open it lightens right up. We never closed them, not even during a stormy (lighting/thunder) day or in the evenings. (There were no mosquitoes) If you are the type that needs to take a break from heat the interior was always pleasantly cool. The house is situated so that our north deck with table and chairs had sun from early morning until 5 pm. For the two of us, there was plenty of room to leave the Murphy Bed down and still easily move around the cottage. The canal is just 6-8 steps down a concert stairway and was warm enough for swimming and there are oysters everywhere for the picking. During our slack tide times you do notice highway noise and the seals can make some pretty rude sounds during the night. Our first night we saw a 6 otters at play on the up turned row boat float and the highest number of seals out on the submerged float numbered 13! Our neighbors were great. One recommended the burgers at the Eagle Creek Saloon and the other recommend the hike and swim at the falls in Dosewallipis State park. For particular sleepers note that Suzanne uses feather pillows which can be squishy and the mattress is on the softer side. Kitchen was great, big sink, good stove and good sized fridge. There is a full dry spice rack, some basics: corn oil, vinegar etc in the cupboard and a good sharp knife. Bigger coffee cups would be a plus! Thanks Suzanne!"

"We stayed at this cabin for 4 nights and had the BEST experience!!! Communication with the owners was a breeze and they were so helpful. We loved enjoying the hot tub at night and watching the harbor seals playing and laying on the swim dock each night and morning. They were very vocal at night! We loved enjoying our coffee in the morning on the deck and watching them :-). You couldn't ask for better views and the cabin provides everything you need. We spent our days hiking Olympic National Park and our evenings having dinner on the deck and relaxing in the hot tub. We also rented paddle boards from a local spot one day which worked out great, they even delivered them to us! The water in the Hood Canal is crystal clear. We enjoyed the outdoors so much we never turned on the TV but there was a great set up for it and lots of movies, books and games in the living room. We hated to leave and we will be back!"
