"This was our second year at House of Strand - obviously the 6 of us (3 couples + a few dogs) liked it a lot the first time and thus returned! It's in a fantastic location, close to town but just a moment's walk away from the sea across a few dunes. A driftwood stairway got built over the winter, so getting down to the beach is even easier now. We love being able to bring our well-behaved dogs, and always have with us all of their needs (beds, bowls, towels, etc.), so the pet-friendly approach is much appreciated. The main layout is very comfortable, with a big living space, large dining table and open kitchen. You can see the water from the large deck, although it's best to bring your own chairs as there are only a couple of plastic ones available. Our third couple paid a bit less and took the 'kids' room again, which has 2 bunks and a twin. They pushed the lower beds together to make a king but it's right off the kitchen and not ideal for adults.
The house is well stocked with things like towels and bedding - we found last year that the knives were all dull, so we brought a set with us this time, along with an inexpensive cook set, both of which we left behind (you're welcome, future renters!).
The owner is very nice and easy to deal with, but unfortunately there was a lot of contact this time around. We learned last minute, pretty much by chance, that the wifi was down - not great for a bunch of techheads on vacation. One of our travelers ended up contacting Comcast after we arrived, and worked with them at the house to figure out the problem which turned out to to be a damaged line. Not to be outdone, another of us tried to help figure out why the air conditioning was broken. It stayed broken for the whole trip - and since you can only open 3 windows in the whole house, that was pretty uncomfortable when the sun was shining. So we were a little hot, and slightly bummed at having to deal with the kinds of things we all take care of in our own homes.
Ultimately, the place itself is showing signs of wear and tear - white carpet is a mess, there's a lot of rust around, windows are mostly unusable, the deck is starting to rot in places...some add'l investment would make a huge difference at this point. Houses by the sea require a lot of attention, and this dated beauty deserves a makeover! All that said, it's a lovely place and with some sprucing up, will make many renters happy in the years to come."
