  • A perfect location for a family retreat

"My family went to Whidbey Island to celebrate a number of anniversaries and just spend time together. This home was ideal! Beautiful views of the water, an enormous deck, and plenty of places to eat and to prepare group dinners. Carolyn went above and beyond to take care of us while we were visiting and dealt with a minor plumbing issue promptly and efficiently when it arose. The home itself is beautiful and well appointed. It was like staying at a friend's place. I hope we can go back again soon. Really can't say enough good things about this wonderful home."

  • So happy and comfortable it was hard to leave

"We are so happy and comfortable in this cottage that I don't think we will be able to leave. We have stayed at a lot of rentals in the U.S. (including two pleasant rentals on Vashon) and in France, where our work has taken us. We have never been happier or more comfortable than we have been here. The house is so welcoming. Paris and the great forests of Provence have their charms, but this feels like home. We wake up early in the morning, cuddle up on the window seat and watch the light change on the water and the ferry glide back and forth. Yesterday we saw two bald eagles playing their tricks. These two were quarreling over a fish, which they carried off over the house. The hummingbirds seldom leave; they are so close that we've been able to show our grandchildren the minute working of their throats as they get their tongues through their beaks into the feeder flowers, the difference in male and female markings and the territorial behaviors of the males. It's like being in a bird blind, except it's warm and cozy and we don't have to wear waders. The owners have obviously made so many ingenious (and labor-intensive!) modifications to the house, without changing its wonderful historic cabin charm. We have everything we could possibly need and everything works well. Thanks so much for all of the hard work. We're having such a happy and relaxing time. This home has given us a wonderful holiday."

  • Second Stay in paradise

"This was our second stay at this cabin so please read my other review about the cabin. As a couple we have rented many cabins all over the western states and BC so we have seen many different types of owners and have to say they are the best. They border more on the innkeeper side as to the amenities they offer and the personal touches that you find in the cabin. They do everything to make sure you have a great time at the cabin, while at the same time they are not intrusive so as to effect the privacy needed for a romantic getaway. They answered all our text messages about where good food was, good trails for hiking and pretty much any question we had. They have done several upgrades to the cabin that improved the already great experience. The high speed wireless internet was a great addition and the new stove was nice and clean. The cabin in situated in such an incredible setting, every night out on the river, knee deep in the clear snowmelt water, then into the hot jacuzzi to warm once the sun had set. The scenery is straight out of a hollywood movie. Stunning hiking trails for all levels are just a short drive from this cabin. We simply cannot say enough positive things about this cabin or the owners. Don't pass this cabin up!"

  • Charming Beachfront Home on Mutiny Bay

"We rented this house for a week in July 2011, and we really enjoyed our stay. Here are some insights about the house: ~ The location is excellent. The house is situated on a beautiful sandy beach, and it faces west toward the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound shipping lanes. From the living room and front patio, we saw bald eagles, seahawks, herons, deer, cruise ships, cargo ships, and even an aircraft carrier. Moreover, the house is just 90 minutes away from Seattle’s eastern suburbs, 15 minutes from the Clinton ferry dock, 1.5 miles from the stores in Freeland, and about 6 miles from Langley. If you scuba dive, the Keystone Underwater Park is only about 20 minutes away. ~ The interior is charming, spacious, and generally comfortable. It's immediately evident that the house is a cherished family home and not just a rental house. The house is adorned with *very* interesting photos and artifacts, and charming custom paintings of the owners’ children. The dining room and living room can accommodate large families, the beds are comfortable, there’s good water pressure and nice shower heads in the bathrooms, and the kitchen is well stocked. ~ The house is not only “dog friendly,” it’s “dog ready.” There’s a chain-link kennel and a dog tether outside, the owner provides dog bowls and dog towels, there’s an outdoor shower and hose to rinse off your dog, and there’s a dog bed in the master bedroom. (And, although it’s a dog-ready beach-front house, the house is still relatively clean and doesn’t smell like a wet dog….) Notably, during high tide, there isn’t much room for a dog to run on the beach in front of the house. But, don’t fret, there's a beautiful waterfront off-leash dog park ("Double Bluff") just a 5-10 minute drive away. ~ The neighbors are wonderful. They were genuinely welcoming, they offered suggestions about things to do on the island, and we even set up a couple of doggy play dates with their golden doodle. ~ The owners’ representative (daughter Becky) was friendly, reasonable, and accommodating in all of our dealings with her. Notably, it was easier to reach her via phone than via e-mail. ~ Just FYI, the house doesn’t currently have wireless internet, and my 3G data reception (via AT&T) was spotty to non-existent on the property. That wasn’t a major problem for us, as we were in a position to “unplug” during that week. However, if you’re planning to telecommute during your stay, you should keep this in mind."
