  • Peace and Quiet with an INCREDIBLE View

"My daughter moved to West Seattle from west Texas with her husband and my grandson (now 11) a year and a half ago and I had not seen them since, so I decided to come to Washington to see them. I'm so glad I chose this house for us to stay in! It was very clean and spacious. The trail/stairs down to the house is long and steep - but well worth it. The view is spectacular to put it mildly. We were blessed with some sunny days so we could see Rainier. Even on cloudy days, the view is so beautiful. We had such a wonderful, relaxing time! My grandson spent an entire day throwing rocks into the water. We saw otters, bald eagles, a loon (love that call) and even Orcas one morning (about 3 we thought). We never even left the island until I had to get to the airport. We loved exploring Vashon. The house was a great place to spend time with my family after so, so long! Christine and Jim greeted us when we arrived and were very kind and accomodating."

  • Of all our many vacation rentals, this is our very favorite!

"My husband and I have been coming to Cottage Paradise for over 8 or 9 years, since before owners Rita and Carl remodeled the kitchen and bathroom. We loved it even back then when both rooms were tiny and there was no wireless. Because i don't like to fly my husband and I travel to many, many cabins and vacation rentals around the Northwest from Washington to Oregon to Montana, and this has always been our favorite place to stay...the one we keep coming back to. (We feel almost possessive of the place!...And actually some of the photos on the site were taken by my husband who was/is a professional photographer. ) And it's not just 180 sunset view, though that is pretty awesome. (In wintertime when you are sitting in one of those window seats that looks out over the Puget Sound, you almost feel like you are outside.) It's also the charm and comfort of the whole place. Even the lighting invites warmth and a cozy feeling. I've been in many VRBO places and you can tell when the owners love their place and also actually vacation there themselves. Because it makes a difference in how great the kitchen is, how comfortable the bed is (love that it is king sized too!), how soft the towels and linens are, the comfortable sofas and chairs. (How many times i have rented a place where the place looked fabulous but the furniture was so uncomfortable!) I love the eclectic decor, the new roomy bathroom with heated tile floors. All of these things are important to me when on vacation and Cottage Paradise delivers. To me, this is just as important as the beautiful view. Also i can't say enough about how incredible the owners are. I feel like Rita and i have been friends all of this time that i forget we haven't quite actually met! I hope that my husband i will be renting Cottage Paradise for years to come even as we get older. I hope Rita and Carl will continue to rent this fabulous place!"

  • Cozy and comfortable!

"Our favorite time at the Kingfisher was waking in the morning and looking out across the water from the deck, coffee and tea in hand -- beautiful, quiet, and so peaceful. A big surprise was walking along the beach at low tide and discovering a huge colony of sanddollars -- quite a treat for a city dweller! The cabin was cozy and clean, the beds comfy, and the kitchen was very well equipped. We so wish we were still there!"

  • delightful

"...a charming cross between a bungalow and an art studio...comfortable,light and airy but tucked amongst tall trees in a lush setting, with an in-your-face waterfront view... ...where lovely framed paintings/prints and art work are not displayed on walls there are large, uncluttered windows that frame views of trees, garden, or water... ...this cozy retreat seems to reflect the escapist theme of the island itself...distant from the city life, which is a mere ferry ride away, but welcoming with friendly folks... ...there are gentle hints of the property's history in photos and books that give a respectful appreciation of the renovations that are tastefully being done... ...addl island suggestions: the Farmer's Market (in season)as unique as the island; the mouth-watering Snapdragon bakery & café; the Vashon Country Club conveniently located less than a mile from the house & now open to the public for dining ....hopefully a bridge will never be built to Vashon that would encourage busloads of tourists, traffic, and big box stores"
