  • Old World Charm!

"Our family spent Thanksgiving weekend at the house and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The house is so unique and charming. We loved the huge fireplace and the coziness of the place, and it had everything we needed in the kitchen. The location is great, too. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat."

  • Like something from a magazine!

"The Ranvik beach house is a wonderful place to visit. For us city-dwellers, stepping into the entryway is like opening a door into a different world. Looking into the well-appointed kitchen/living room, and then opening the blinds for the windows overlooking the beach completes the transformation. The house blends elements of traditional and modern architecture in a pleasing way, and the white color scheme with wood paneling has a very Scandinavian feel. The kitchen is well stocked with coffee, a good array of spices, and basic dry staples. The cookware selection is fairly extensive and of high quality. There is plenty of activity to see from the deck and beach. There was a near-continuous presence of waterfowl bobbing and diving in the water. We had multiple bald eagles flying by over the course of the day, sometimes at roof-level or lower with plenty of opportunity for photos. We even had a swimming deer haul out of the water in front of the house. There was extensive shipping traffic to watch, and the waves from the ships make for lovely crashing waves. With calm seas and still air, you can easily hear a loon's call from afar and the low rumble of ships across the water. It is at least worth noting that we experienced quite a bit of activity from the Naval Outlying Field Coupeville. The EA-18G aircraft repeatedly fly over the house at a relatively low altitude while practicing touch and gos. The peak noise level of each pass is relatively short, but it can be quite loud (in the 95-105dB range according to my iPhone sound meter). Flights occurred on 4 of the 5 weekdays we were there, and on one night went a little past 9:30 PM. The week by week schedule (somewhat vague and subject to change) can be found here: http://www.cnic.navy.mil/regions/cnrnw/installations/nas_whidbey_island.html We found the practices to be interesting, and I had a great time practicing my telephoto lens camera skills. It won't stop us from coming back, but if a couple hours of loud planes will really ruin your day, you might want to look for a different area to stay."

  • Sweet and cosy

"A very cute little cabin in the middle of some huge cedar trees. Special touches with games and great books. Small, but perfect for the two of us, great bed and linens. This is actually one long room with a small divider to create a "bedroom". I am not sure how it could sleep four, there is a fold up bed but it looked small. Maybe they are counting the couch? I would have appreciated some better hanger space, there is no closet, just a dressing cabinet. Used products in the bathroom was a bit odd. No soap or shampoo."
