  • Summer Stay

"The good: This home is located right on the beach. There is a fence encircling the property so young children are prevented from accessing the water. The home is quaint and although it is relatively small, we did not feel cramped with 2 adults and 6 children (including 3 teens). The City of Coupeville had some fun stuff to do, including renting sea kayaks, small shops, great restaurants and Fort Casey. The beach in front of the house had great tide pools with crabs, star fish, small fish, etc. Our children spent hours on the beach. The kitchen was stocked with basics like sugar, flour, spices, ketchup, mustard, etc. There is also a huge selection of movies. A couple of things to keep in mind. The house is listed as sleeps 8-10. However, there is one twin bed on the main level that is considered the master bedroom. There is also a futon in the living room/kitchen/dining area, but you would not want to sleep on it because the mattress is very thin and uncomfortable (it works great for seating and looks out over the beach). There are 4 bunk beds upstairs, but you need to bring your own sleeping bags or bedding. There are two large couches upstairs and that is where two of our teens slept. All in all the house is a good deal for the price, was very clean and well stocked and you can't beat the proximity to the beach. We would stay there again."

  • Serene and spacious

"This property was even more charming than advertised. My husband and two children(10 & 13) stayed here for 6 nights. Everything was immaculate and all amenities are full-size. Unlike what you get in a hotel room. The living room was roomier than it appears. We were able to relax and watch a movie comfortably. Having a shopping center across the street was a bonus because the kitchen was easy to work in so we took advantage of eating in. The shopping center's closeness did not impact the peacefulness of the property. The highway was ~5 minutes away which made for easy travel. The front door opened out onto a patio and table w/umbrella and the horse pasture. A sweet site first thing in the morning. Our kids loved offering carrots to their gorgeous horses. The owners were very thoughtful with extra conveniences and one morning left beautiful scones on the patio table! Our entire stay couldn't have gone better."

  • Charming and Beautiful Inside and Out!

"The Penn Cove Cottage is charming; inside and out. The setting is beautiful on a quiet inlet off Penn Cove on Whidbey island. The cabin itself is really cute inside; clean and well equipped. And, even on a damp day I was distracted by the beauty of the setting. I stayed for a week while taking a workshop in Coupeville. The first (sunny) day I took a gorgeous walk to and from class. Coupeville has a nice variety of restaurants and little shops but I was happy most evenings to settle in at the cottage on the cove and relax! Thank you, Mary and Eric."

  • Beautiful and peaceful

"The photos don't do justice to this beautiful house. Set in the midst of gardens (wish I could have seen them all in bloom) with views of the water, this house is a wonderful vacation getaway. The house was very clean and filled with light. Because of the surrounding gardens, it felt secluded and peaceful. My two adult sons had a great time cooking in the well-stocked kitchen. I could have stayed on the deck and relaxed the whole time, but since the owner thoughtfully provided lots on brochures with information on things to do on Vashon, and in Seattle, Tacoma and the Olympic Peninsula, we went exploring instead. Working with Madie was a pleasure and very easy, especially considering the short notice we gave her. This is possible the best vacation house I've ever stayed in!"
