  • Private beach with view!

"My parents and I rented this little cottage for 3 nights in September. We had amazing weather and the house and grounds were perfect for us. My mother loved the kitchen, and my Dad and I the view of the water, private beach and view of Mt. Baker. I spent all of the mornings watching the sunrise over Mt. Baker just to go back and watch the alpenglow on Mt. Baker as the sunset behind us. Neighbors were quiet. House had everything we needed. I believe the owner is a descendant of the original homesteader and we chatted with some family a bit when they drove down the lane. Very welcoming and friendly. The rental company was easy to work with and gave very detailed directions on how to get to this little part of the island. The only thing I would change for next time is maybe to pay for the housecleaning as the list of things to do made us a bit nervous. That said, I promptly received my full deposit back. Would definitely return."

  • We will be back!

"My high school girlfriends and I stayed at Rutabaga, an absolutely charming place on Orcas Island, San Juan Islands, in Washington State. We totally enjoyed staying at the Bunk House and Boat Shed. The two buildings were filled with wonderful old artifacts from the fifties and earlier. (For the first hour we were there, I took many pictures of all the cool things!) The kitchen was on the side porch outside the Bunkhouse. There was a fire pit not far from the buildings for those who wanted to sit around the fire at night. The hosts were great! We had a very relaxing and fun time at this wonderful place."

  • Perfect Get Away at a Great Value

"I had the great pleasure of staying at the Crow's Nest in early November. It was my first time on Orcas Island and I couldn't have asked for a better location, more comfortable stay, or more convenient arrangements. The Nest is just that, a perfect little nest for one or two people. The Nest is spacious with lots of natural light and windows/french doors with amazing views of the bay...you can even watch the seaplanes land and approach the nearby marina. The whole place feels clean and cozy. I was traveling in the off season so it wasn't busy at any of the places I visited....but the weather was wonderful and the air crisp and the skies clear. Don't be put off by fall in the Pacific Northwest. Having the private deck overlooking everything in the bay was a special treat (the fishmonger was stationed at the dock during my visit - a tasty treat for fish lovers!!) You can even look out at the bay from the bed!! The morning sounds and light are just wonderful. The Nest is well situated to all locations on the Island. However, the immediate area isn't busy with tourists once the ferry traffic heading to Deer Harbor disperses. Having said that, if you are looking to go out to breakfast or dinner in the off season, be prepared to drive to the East Sound or to the Orcas Hotel. Some options are dinner only, and in some cases only on the weekends. But, to be fair, this is totally understandable as it's the low tourist season. The Crow's Nest owners are great to work with and make everything so simple and convenient. It's the perfect getaway for adventures on/around the island(s), a romantic weekend, or a quiet locale for sitting back with a great glass of wine, a good book, and an amazing view. The gas fireplace/stove is an added perk to chase away the slight chill in the fall and night air. I almost hate writing this review because I don't want this gem to be spoiled by constant bookings....but it should be shared. The prices are beyond fair. Unless you are expecting the Four Seasons and want someone to wait on you, you won't be disappointed. The owners have created the perfect little oasis on the Island. In short, it fit my needs perfectly in every way."

  • Wonderful House on a Beautiful Island

"10 of us stayed very comfortably in this lovely house (5 adults, 5 kids). It was clean, well kept, wonderfully full of light and with amazing views, even while not being right on the water (it is very close). We were there for a wedding weekend and we all had such a good time we are considering returning to both the island and the house for an extended vacation. Cannot recommend highly enough... and the people of Lopez are amazing! Our rental car died an hour before the wedding, we were trapped and the next door neighbor was going to lend us his car, not even knowing us, to get there... but he himself managed to fix our car!"
