Lovely family vacation
"We enjoyed a beautiful 5 night stay at this lovely property. Our only complaint is that we didn't book it for longer! We had 6 in our party - 3 children (ages 7-12) and 3 adults. The house is a well-kept old farmhouse with so much charm and ample room for us all. The location is amazing. Seriously, less than a 5 minute walk into town (Brown Bear Baking pastries and lattes for breakfast!) but back at the house, we felt completely secluded. (Faint traffic noise from nearby road but the trees and natural shape of the bay keep it minimal.) Even more amazing is the big lawn and beach front. The kids spent hours roaming the shores for shells. We dug up clams at low tide and made clam chowder. (You can walk all the way around the bay then!) Even if you hardly pull any clams out of the sand, just looking for the holes and "spirts" is an adventure in itself. This is a perfect property for kids of all ages - even toddlers. Loads of space to wander around safely while adults can sit and keep watch. Every evening we had a special guest for our dinner out on the porch: a bald eagle (who we named "Sam") sat high in a nearby tree. Easy drive (20min?) to Moran State Park with hiking and swimming in the lakes. We had sunny, warm weather while we were there, but even if it had been cloudy and colder, the house and location are perfect for sitting and reading (partially covered porch,) playing games, walking on the beach etc. ( Oh! And the hot tub! - cannot forget the hot tub.)
The one thing to know in advance is that since this is a turn of the century farmhouse, the bedrooms (all upstairs) do not open up into a central hallway. This is a classic design for its time and I'm glad the owners didn't remodel it but it is quite different from modern home design. This means that the bedrooms open up into each other in a circle. So the bunk bed room opens onto the hallway and into the queen bedroom. Then the queen bed room opens up into the upstairs 1/2 bath which then opens up into the king bedroom which opens up again into the hallway. If you are turned around by that description, it just means that to get to the queen bed room or bathroom you have to go through another bedroom (king or bunk bed.) Not a problem for us at all as we just shuffled around who slept where for the best privacy.
My husband is from the Seattle area and spent his summers on Orcas growing up. He loved it and we will definitely return next summer for a full week!"

"Thanks for providing a wonderful house for our use on a great island.
First, the logistics...We had 8 adults and 7 kids under the age of 6. Not easy to manage but we had beds for all which was great. We were able to keep the babies isolated so they could nap and the kids had tons of room to play outside. The firepit was great for the adults in the evening to get a break.
Next, the location: located walking distance to the town was great. The IGA and other restaurants provided all we needed and the location near the small airport provided a great place to visit for the kids. We were a 15 drive from anything on the island worth visiting such as Moran State Park (fresh water lake with a beach and play area), golf (the course isn't much but still fun round), Eastsound as mentioned above and the water itself.
Finally the house and our host: Both were exactly what we needed. The house was cleaned professionally before our arrival and everything we needed (Wifi, rules of the house, etc) were clearly outlined. The BBQ was excellent as was the frisbee golf course and the tire swings. Some of the beds were 'soft' as per the reviews of my friends but it's an old house...what can you expect? Lots of room and a ton of fun.
Thanks for a wonderful long weekend destination. Recommend for those who are looking to take 3-4 families away for a long weekend."

"We stayed at the absolutely fabulous house to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday! We were there with our son and daughter in law. They live in Seattle and we in Texas. I cannot say enough nice things about this house! The location was very private and calming. We had planned on doing some sightseeing, but the house was so incredible we stayed there most of the time! We had already planned several meals out, but when I saw how well equipped the kitchen was, I wished I had planned to cook.
The only thing that we found to be a little out of line of our expectations, was the lack of the little things- like no tissues, toilet paper at the end of the rolls, no soft soap for washing hands or showering. We found an almost empty container soap in one of the bathrooms and used that. Bought toilet tissue and tissues the next day.
We found the owner extremely easy to deal with. I always like to talk to the people I rent from. She was very prompt with the paperwork!
We have dreams of returning to this very SPECIAL home in the near future"

"Ah....honestly, we have not stopped talking about our wonderful stay at Delongview. We had four glorious days and nights over mid-winter break at this special getaway. We were blessed with the mild winter days, which also led to starlit nights we were able to enjoy from the comfort of the sofa while gazing out the enormous skylight. Nearly everything you could need is in the house, and if you cannot find it it 1) you have not looked hard enough or, 2) you will find something else that will be a fine substitute. The only exception is if you are traveling with small children, you will want to bring your own equipment and entertainment for them. The movie, game, and book selection is definitely geared for adults, but we were prepared and brought what we needed. As it turns out, the kids ended up chasing each other around in circles in the large great room and kept themselves entertained for many hours doing so! It was a great set up because we could keep an eye on them while still relaxing or while making our meals. The slate floors were definitely very efficient at heating the house - as some have stated almost too efficient, but it also enabled us to just open the doors and let in the fresh air. I have debated whether to suggest an upgrade to the electronics as the TV, while indeed has a flat screen, is not a flat screen TV, and is rather dated. However, the point of spending time at a home like this is that you get away from the electronics. Instead we listened to music on the CD player - had dance parties, and enjoyed our time together without everyone staring at the TV. The wi-fi worked great There was a good selection of books and puzzles for adults. The house was nearly immaculate and I felt comfortable just settling right in without worry that the house needed cleaning. The trees have grown some since the photos were taken, so the water views were not as expansive as the photos seem to indicate, but this did not inhibit the magnificent sunrises from every room in the house. My only complaint is actually my own fault in that I waited until our second night to try out the tub, thus delaying by a day my full relaxation. All I can say is ahhhhhhhhh!!!!! Now I want one too! Caution though - all you need is one or two squirts of the bath gel for MORE than an ample amount of bubbles! Many thanks to Donna for sharing her wonderful home with all it's comforts and special touches. We hope to return sometime soon!"
