  • We will be back!

"My high school girlfriends and I stayed at Rutabaga, an absolutely charming place on Orcas Island, San Juan Islands, in Washington State. We totally enjoyed staying at the Bunk House and Boat Shed. The two buildings were filled with wonderful old artifacts from the fifties and earlier. (For the first hour we were there, I took many pictures of all the cool things!) The kitchen was on the side porch outside the Bunkhouse. There was a fire pit not far from the buildings for those who wanted to sit around the fire at night. The hosts were great! We had a very relaxing and fun time at this wonderful place."

  • Better than we could have imagined

"We had seen the photos online and knew it was a beautiful cottage but it was so much better in person. Very comfortable inside and the fireplace was great. The covered porch was a wonderful place to relax and the view from the porch is so nice...garden, green house, and chicken coop. Hearing the frogs at night, so peaceful and quiet. The canoe ride on the pond was so much fun and the adirondack chairs waiting for us. My 5 year old daughter wanted to move in!"

  • Good for Large Groups

"Maggie's Manor is well equipped for large groups (we had 10 people). Kitchen is well stocked. There were plenty of towels. Lots of seating, deck is great, and fire pit out back was nice. It is a very peaceful place with a great view of Deer Harbor. That being said, there were a few things that were a little funky. The kitchen and upstairs bathroom had carpeting! Not a good idea. You can't sweep it and who knows what is in it. Kinda gross. There are two sinks in the kitchen island which seems like a good idea but there are no sprayer nozzles so you can't clean out the sink without pouring pitchers of water in them. Plus the faucets swing out over the counter so if you accidently turn on the water with them like that you've just run water all over the counter and floor. The water pressure was too low for the main kitchen sink nozzle to spray so again no way to clean out the sink without a lot of effort. Garbage disposal doesn't really work; caused a blockage and the sink wouldn't drain, had to do some ad hoc plumbing work. Doors don't close very well. Main floor bathroom could use some updating. So, some things that could be fixed to make it totally top notch. But, nothing was a show stopper and it was a great weekend."

  • Beautiful area and beautiful home

"2 Couples in our 50's and 60's stayed here. This home is one of he highest elevations in the area for living. Beautiful sunsets, stars, and view of he water below. Very quiet, and with 2 decks, where the back deck/patio has a weber bbq. The kitchen is full of utensils, pans, silver ware, and has a dish washer, microwave, and stove/oven. The front room has a fireplace and a wood stove, and there is wood and kindling covered in the patio area. There a 3 beautiful rooms, and 2 bathrooms with showers, with one bathroom having a jackuzi. There are roads and trails just off of the property that are wonderful for walking and even biking. The location provides easy access to many activities on the island. There are kayak and bike shops, restaurants, and stores/shops to look at and buy things if interested. The owner was very accommodating when we asked if we could just stay 2 nights. He was also very helpful with sending us information about things to do in the area. There is nothing to clean up afterwards except for putting dishes, pans, silverware away clean. There were extra pillows and blankets, and even slippers as it is asked that shoes be taken off in the house. Therefore the entire house is very clean, and has many windows letting in lots of light. There is accessible music in each room, televisions, games to play, and wi fi. And finally, the ferry ride is a comfortable just under one hour ride from Anacortes, which is 1 1/2 hours north of Seattle. Dan/Janice, Chris/Julie"
