  • Excellence and perfect for people and their beloved pets!

"While searching for a dog-friendly house to rent, we stumbled onto this site... and Rick, the owner was so easy and accommodating to deal with, and welcoming. We LOVED this house.. the VIEWS from all rooms are SUPERB, the cleanliness, open layout, yard (connected to house) for potty and ease, the beds, decor, amazing tub and DECK! You will LOVE this house and not want to leave! It's perfect! Thank you, Rick, for the pleasure and comfort of your beautiful home and memories of Orcas Island."

  • Peaceful and perfect!

"My husband and I stayed at Sawmill Creek Cottage for three nights in January. Our aim was to experience the island in the "off-season" and decide whether we really wanted to move there. Within three hours of arrival, we were sure San Juan Island was the right home for us. In large part, that may be due to Sawmill Creek Cottage, which was small but comfortably livable, well appointed, clean, and very peaceful. It is only a short trip (by car or by foot!) from the heart of town, yet the cottage is secluded and quiet. Its waterfront location offers birdwatching and peaceful views from your breakfast table, the tumbling creek provides just the right amount of white noise, and the huge willow tree was beautiful in the winter... it must be spectacular in full foliage! The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare good meals, which really saved money during our stay. The nearby grocery store (in town) has prices very comparable to those in Seattle. The queen-sized bed is wonderfully comfortable, and the bathtub is perfect for soaking! The internet access was reliable and did everything we needed it to do. The overall feel of the cottage is vintage/country, so don't expect granite countertops and luxury fittings, but the well-maintained, old-fashioned feel was cozy, welcoming, and induced plenty of relaxation! We will definitely be back as we hunt for a more permanent residence on the island!"

  • Great stay over long weekend.

"Our favorite couple and ourselves spent a wonderful long weekend at this property earlier this month. We had a GREAT time ! The house is beautiful, secluded, quiet and extremely comfortable. I'm lucky enough to be friends with the owner, so that personal connection was very helpful. Yet, even without that connection, the guide book on the dining room table explains all the features, as well as the dos and donts. Kitchen is well appointed and the photos, while accurate, don't do the place justice ! Highly recommend this property and this location. Thanks very much, Sue and Jim"

  • Incredibly Special Stay in Beautiful Location with All the Comforts of Home

"We stayed at this beautiful home over the Thanksgiving holiday week and want to give it our very highest recommendation. The property has a lovely view looking out over the water -- in short, staying there is "good for the soul." The house is equipped with all necessities, a terrific Franklin stove (with plenty of firewood) and gorgeous floor to ceiling windows, in the Lindall prow design. Every morning when we woke up -- the view, and the peace and quiet just took our breath away. There is also a terrific hot tub, and we even had an eagle fly over us while we were soaking away. The beach is just a short walk away and whenever we went down to the headland, we would see harbor seals just a few yards away. There is lots to do on Orcas Island, but we found little reason to leave. Suffice it to say, we had a memorable holiday, but in addition, the owners, Anita and Conrad were the best !! They were always helpful and immediately responsive. We had travel issues and at every turn, Anita found a way to make things work out for us. We want to thank Anita and Conrad for sharing their home and helping our family create lifelong memories."
