  • Lummi Island Get-Away

"Beautiful home & landscaped property was perfect for our family get-together of 3 couples, 2 grannies & 1 20-something! Would go back in a flash! Clean, roomy home with well stocked kitchen where we whipped up some great meals. Convenient location just minutes fr the ferry yet quiet & private. Steep stairs in the backyard took us to the beach below where we were treated to a 2pm -2.5' low tide which brought a great blue heron, sea stars, sea anemones, crab...Saw seals at dusk and gorgeous sunsets. Spectacular dining room view. When we arrived and discovered that the ice maker wasn't working, John promptly drove over to drop us off a bag of ice. He is also the one that alerted us to the low tide which turned out to be the highlight of our stay. Baker's Preserve trail is a short drive/bike ride away, 1.6mi hike is steep and vigorous (not for 80something grannies) but well maintained and no scary drop-offs -- a good workout. Our impromptu stop at the Beach Side Cafe also impressed us with a great selection of WA IPA's and craft beer and quality dishes. We had a tasty bacon/potato pizza, a pasta and a banh mi fried oyster sandwich while catching the tail end of the USA/Ghana soccer match. The one item we would've appreciated in the home would've been bikes for use. Otherwise, a perfect getaway!"

  • Amazing experience staying here

"My husband and I recently stayed at The Waterhouse for a week and we had the best vacation. Moments after our arrival we saw orcas from the house and we saw them every day of our stay. We also saw a young humpback whale very close to shore right in front of the house. There is so much wildlife around: blacktail deer including a spotted fawn, a raccoon that peered in the window, bald eagles on the rocky point seen from the living room, barn swallows tending their babies in mud nests on the house, white-crowned sparrows singing sweetly from the blackberry bushes and pelagic birds like rhino auklets diving for mouthfuls of herring, it looked like. The house itself is very clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. I'm very picky about those things and it surpassed my expectations. Suzanne is so nice and made us feel at home. We explored the island a bit but spend most of our time here, having breakfast and lunch on the deck, sketching and reading or just watching from the window-seats indoors. Often after dark, we'd hear the orcas swimming by the house, their huffing-snorting sounds coming in the open bedroom windows. Falling asleep to the sounds of waves and orcas - it doesn't get any better!"

  • Idyllic and Tranquil Cabin in the Pines

"Mud Bay Cabin is an idyllic and tranquil vacation retreat; nestled in the pines on the southern part of Lopez Island. Karleen is the most generous and accommodating host. The cabin was perfect for the two of us. My boyfriend and I were visiting from Phoenix; celebrating his 50th birthday! We couldn't have been more happier with our vacation accommodations. The people of Lopez Island were truly very warm and friendly. We got to experience the 4th of July on the island; from the Fun Walk/Run, to the 4th of July Parade and barbeque. All of the parks are not to bee missed! Wonderful hiking trails and spectacular views...all a stone's throw from the Mud Cabin. Karleen gave us great insight on the areas to see...she even shared with us her personal experience of seeing Orcas off Iceberg Point the two nights before we left. We were able to retrace her steps the last night of our stay and we were witness to a doe and buck that crossed our path, as well as 20-30 Orcas swimming right off of Iceberg Point. It was a spectacular climax to our unforgettable stay on this wonderful island and vacation retreat at Mud Bay Cabin. I hope we are able to make it back here soon! Karleen, thank you for sharing this wonderful place with us."

  • Beyond beautiful and amazing!

"We enjoyed every precious moment at this beautiful home with the breathtaking scenery. The home had everything we needed, including a washer and dryer! We enjoyed a campfire one evening. We also explored the beach at low tide and savored the fresh air during high tide. Myself, husband, 12 year old son & 11 year old daughter loved our stay here & we were so sad to leave. We cannot wait to return. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The views from inside the house and outside are gorgeous. The location to Friday Harbor was so convenient. We went exploring at American and English Camps and shopping in Friday Harbor. We went on two whale watching trips and experienced the amazing orcas and beautiful Pacific White Sided Dolphins!!! Thank you so so much to Kristy and Charles for sharing your amazing home and property !!! We look forward to a return trip!"
