Recent Northwest & Islands reviews

  • A special place on a special island

"The glowing reviews about this home are all true. My husband and I stayed here for over a month in January and fell in love with the house, the VIEW, the wood stove, the walks, the eagles and otters and foxes and more. Karen and Norris were excellent hosts - available but never intrusive. Any issues we encountered were immediately remedied - newspaper/kindling for the wood stove was provided, a shelf in the fridge missing a railing was quickly ordered and replaced. Honestly, nothing was missing from this home and we would have loved to have stayed indefinitely. January was a great month to go. It's quiet yet restaurants and stores are still open. Beaches and hills are your own to walk. Animals are easy to find with so few people about. We miss the peace and quiet already. Thank you Karen and Norris!"

  • Seclusion right in town!

"We've rented homes across this country and this is at the top of our list. Anacortes is a great jumping off point for San Juan Island adventures and staying at this 'cottage' makes it even more desirable. Read the other reviews - I don't want to repeat except to share that these were our favorites about the place: - Top notch, well-appointed kitchen - a must for those that love to cook like we do. - Nice wine glasses - seriously, I can't tell you how many places we've rented that don't offer these! There's even other bar ware for you mix-ologists. - Gorgeous views and private hot tub. - Comfy beds and a nice shower plus plenty of towels. - Conveniently located to anything you'd like to do from cycling to hiking and kayaking to shopping. - So lovely and homey you won't want to leave. A perfect rainy day place to curl up with a good book or your latest art project. - Nice communications from owner too. One thing to note (and it totally wasn't an issue for us) is that the bedrooms and main bath are located up a turning victorian house staircase. Good to know if someone in your party has mobility issues."

  • Great House

"Two families with two very young children stayed the weekend in this great house. Harvey was a wonderful host, reaching out to me before our arrival to make sure we knew how to get to the house, how to take the ferry, etc. He even notified us of some island events taking place during our stay, and recommended we attend. He also noted our two small children, and provided extra instructions on sleeping options for the young ones (and plenty of toys!). The house was very clean, very modern, very warm and very cozy. The kitchen is spacious and very well-stocked. The house is in a great spot on Lopez - just far enough away from the Village to be both quiet and convenient. A short drive to some cool hikes and views on the island. The Milky Way from the deck was gorgeous. Highly recommended."

  • Lazy sunsets across the bay...

"We wanted a quiet, peaceful getaway and this ON-the-bay cottage delivered! As each day faded, we kicked our shoes off, opened up a bottle of wine and watched the gentle bay slowly change hues as the sun sank beyond the horizon. After a day exploring the island's many nearby natural attractions -- Spencer Spit, Iceberg Point, Watmough Bay -- we would return "home," sink into the comfortable furnishings and extend a toast to our good fortune in finding this one-of-a-kind property. A short walk away, we enjoyed the Love Dog Cafe, shopped at the Lopez Market and purchased delectable, drinkable souvenirs from the Lopez Island Vineyard. All in all, the Bay Inlet Beach Cottage is the perfect week-long escape for the weary traveler. We hope to make the trek from Iowa to this island gem again and again."
