  • Lovely Property

"The pictures don't really do the property justice. It is very nicely finished and has very broad views over the island and surrounding water. Having a pool and hottub is great and there's a large field as well if you have kids that want to run around. We stayed here for a 70th birthday and very much enjoyed the experience it worked well for 2 families and the grandparents."

  • Stayed here twice, and will stay again!

"What a spectacular summer! We drove up and heard: "just leave everything in the car and come see the whales!" So we did, and all across the horizon were orcas, jumping, splashing, playing. You could hear the "thwack" from their tails across the water. Later, when it was quieter, you could hear the "whoosh" as they breathed out. And EVERY SINGLE DAY after that, they came back to visit. As did the eagles, flying fast, then swooping into the nearby trees. A juvenile bald eagle came real close, just watching us, as we watched him. So quiet here, you could hear the kayakers, out for the sunset paddle, down in the water just below the deck. They waved at us; we waved back. It's a big house, three levels, including a separate (and cool) basement deck that wraps around the house). Beautifully furnished, with some whimsical and some spectacular paintings. And you won't believe the kitchen. A super-fancy gas stove with burners so precise they turn on and off by themselves to keep an even heat. And absolutely everything you could want in kitchen equipment, even a pair of spare beaters for the hand mixer (in case one paid gets lost, I guess). Very quiet dishwasher. Hard to find the first time, but easy once you've been there once, so get directions. Adds to the quiet. Such a wonderful time. We've done it before, and we'll do it again."

  • Great Property & Location

"Girls Getaway - great access to the trails in the park and we walked the trail to downtown (approx. 1 hr each way) to attend the Saturday market. Found good downloadable trail maps online to carry with us, but it is also well marked. Hot tub was welcome on our return, and the facilities were great for cooking big meals together. Rooms are well spaced and private. Great house, well appointed. Proximity to Trader Joe's is a bonus. Nice quiet neighbourhood."

  • Peaceful and perfect!

"My husband and I stayed at Sawmill Creek Cottage for three nights in January. Our aim was to experience the island in the "off-season" and decide whether we really wanted to move there. Within three hours of arrival, we were sure San Juan Island was the right home for us. In large part, that may be due to Sawmill Creek Cottage, which was small but comfortably livable, well appointed, clean, and very peaceful. It is only a short trip (by car or by foot!) from the heart of town, yet the cottage is secluded and quiet. Its waterfront location offers birdwatching and peaceful views from your breakfast table, the tumbling creek provides just the right amount of white noise, and the huge willow tree was beautiful in the winter... it must be spectacular in full foliage! The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare good meals, which really saved money during our stay. The nearby grocery store (in town) has prices very comparable to those in Seattle. The queen-sized bed is wonderfully comfortable, and the bathtub is perfect for soaking! The internet access was reliable and did everything we needed it to do. The overall feel of the cottage is vintage/country, so don't expect granite countertops and luxury fittings, but the well-maintained, old-fashioned feel was cozy, welcoming, and induced plenty of relaxation! We will definitely be back as we hunt for a more permanent residence on the island!"
