  • Yearly trip to Orcas first time at the Homestead

"We stayed for 4 nights. There were three of us (my hubby and me and a friend) and our two dogs. We stay at Orcas every year over Easter. We usually stay at West Beach resort because they are dog friendly and right on the ocean facing west. This year we could not get our regular cabin and so I started searching for rentals that took dogs. I want to say first of all how much I appreciate it when I can find a nice property that accepts dogs and is a great place. I wish more pet owner options were available. It was a beautiful old home just around the corner from town so we could take walks every morning to the bakeries (Roses for fabulous bread and Brown Bear for their bear claws). Perfectly situated on the bay with great views of the water. It was nice and clean and very roomy. It has a queen bedroom downstairs along with a bathroom and upstairs had a room with 4 bunk beds, another room with one bed, and the master with a queen bed, sitting area and very roomy. There is also a bathroom upstairs too. Large kitchen with great views of the water, outside deck, a lower patio facing the ocean and a lawn equipped with its very own resident large Easter bunny! Loved the house. If I had a "wish list" or things that could be improved they would be minor, but here goes. It would have been great if there was an outdoor fire pit whether wood burning or gas so we could have sat out at night. I missed not having that. A couple of chaise lounge chairs on the patio for napping would be great too. It would be nice for the main room upstairs to have a king bed for room, especially with a tall husband. I think the upstairs tub was jetted somehow, but it did not work and there was the slightest musty smell when you turned the corner to go up the second set of stairs. It was faint, but there. Don't let this deter you as I said this was all minor. I would stay there again in a minute, we had such a great time and it is a beautiful place in a beautiful location. For the 4th of July fireworks you would not have to leave the deck to see the show (assuming they still do fireworks). Thanks again for the enjoyable stay and for being dog friendly!!!!!!!!"

  • Beautiful area and beautiful home

"2 Couples in our 50's and 60's stayed here. This home is one of he highest elevations in the area for living. Beautiful sunsets, stars, and view of he water below. Very quiet, and with 2 decks, where the back deck/patio has a weber bbq. The kitchen is full of utensils, pans, silver ware, and has a dish washer, microwave, and stove/oven. The front room has a fireplace and a wood stove, and there is wood and kindling covered in the patio area. There a 3 beautiful rooms, and 2 bathrooms with showers, with one bathroom having a jackuzi. There are roads and trails just off of the property that are wonderful for walking and even biking. The location provides easy access to many activities on the island. There are kayak and bike shops, restaurants, and stores/shops to look at and buy things if interested. The owner was very accommodating when we asked if we could just stay 2 nights. He was also very helpful with sending us information about things to do in the area. There is nothing to clean up afterwards except for putting dishes, pans, silverware away clean. There were extra pillows and blankets, and even slippers as it is asked that shoes be taken off in the house. Therefore the entire house is very clean, and has many windows letting in lots of light. There is accessible music in each room, televisions, games to play, and wi fi. And finally, the ferry ride is a comfortable just under one hour ride from Anacortes, which is 1 1/2 hours north of Seattle. Dan/Janice, Chris/Julie"

  • Wonderful!

"My husband came to work on his boat and thought he would be allowed to stay on the boat while it was in the boatyard. At the last minute they asked him to find a place in town. This condo was open by pure luck, the weekend of Labor Day and the owners and manager were quite wonderful about letting him get in there and checking rather late in the day to accomodate his work schedule. It was peaceful and quiet and he enjoyed the comfy bed and black out shades. They also were great about letting him extend his stay a few extra days. Quick response to emails and phone messages. It was a little hectic at the Windemere office to get the keys but it was on a busy weekend at the last minute.. Thank you Sandy and Bill for sharing your condo with him!"

  • Just perfect!

"I agree with previous reviews, this house is much more beautiful than the photos let on. The place is absolutely picturesque in the heart of the forest with a wrap-around deck and huge windows which take advantage of the incredible view. It's warm, comfortable and spacious and encourages a sense of calm not often found. It's very generously equipped with bits a pieces to help make your stay simple. Thank you for letting us stay on your property; it's a part of the world not to be missed and we will be back!"
