Visitors may enjoy a helicopter right over the Hoffstadt Bluffs to view the mudflow from the eruption. The visitors' center here includes local glasswork created from the volcanic ash for fascinating and unusual mementos. One of the most popular areas here is the Ike Kinswa State Park, with over 45,000 feet of shoreline along a freshwater lake where visitors can fish and enjoy the wildlife such as bobcats, bears, coyotes, deer, elk and muskrats.

Those who enjoy cultural activities will not want to miss St. Francis Xavier Mission. This was the first permanent mission to be established in Washington State and dates from 1838. The nearby Morton Historic Railroad Depot at Morton is the last depot of the Tacoma Eastern Railroad and just 10 miles from the center of the city.
