Southwest Washington State is known for its mild but damp climate, largely affected by its proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Ocean shores has summer highs of around 70 F from July through September with very little rainfall in that season. Cooler fall days bring more rainfall when temperatures drop to the mid-50s F. The winters see up to 12 inches of rainfall but has mild temperatures of 47 F during the day and stays above freezing at night. The inland areas with higher elevations will have snow during the winter months and generally lower temperatures.

The nearest major airport to your southwest Washington lodging is the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport which is 93 miles from the center of Ocean Shores. The area is also easy to access by car from the I-5 which runs up the west coast from Sacramento, California to the Canadian border.

Popular Places to Visit from Southwest Washington Vacation Rentals

There is no shortage of places to visit from your southwest Washington lodging. The protected scenic area of the Columbia River Gorge is overlooked by the city of Vancouver, not to be confused with the Canadian city of the same name further north. The city of Aberdeen has a replica of Captain Gray's ship, the Lady Washington, which is considered the state's ambassador. Fans of musician Kurt Cobain can take a walking tour of his homes and haunts as Aberdeen was his hometown before he joined the rock band, Nirvana. Near Grayland beach, just south of Westport, is worth visiting for its spectacular oceanfront scenery and beachcombing opportunities.

Willapa Bay is a serene area to visit along the 26-mile Longbeach Peninsula with its superb opportunities for wildlife spotting. Gift stores and restaurants are worth stopping for at Ocean Park. Port Ilwaco has great art galleries en route to the North Head Lighthouse. Ocean Shores, Taholah and Point Grenville all have wonderful beaches for families to spend the day.

Further inland are the sightseeing opportunities at Mount St. Helen's, the National Forest and the National Wildlife Refuge.
