  • I can't imagine there's a better place to stay in Harpers Ferry...

"My husband and I along w my two kids, my sister and hers, and our mother all agreed upon walking in the door that we couldn't have lucked out more with this house the second we walked through the door. The number of beautiful and/or unique details inside this home are too many too count, and I wouldn't want to ruin the magical feel for anyone else upon opening the door by pointing them all out anyway. On top of all that-- there was plenty of room, it was very clean and comfortable, and so much you might need or want is provided by the owners that it really makes you feel like it's your home for a few days. Such a nice treat and I can't recommend it highly enough. Not much to say that hasn't been pointed out by other guests-- a/c kept us perfectly cool, cable and wifi in case you want it, games, every kitchen item you could want and then some, superfast response to any emails or questions, awesome antiques, interesting artwork, beautiful view from the deck, easy walking distance to everything... Nothing negative to say whatsoever. Lovely time. Would be back in a heartbeat."

  • Close to it all and cozy

"Us group of co-workers stayed here early in 2014. There were 5 in our party, so the sleeping arrangements worked out perfect. We had one couple (they got the big bed) then two women shared the dual twin room and the lone guy took the double. Worked out just fine. Plenty of room, and quiet in the rooms if you wanted to sneak away for a cat nap. This place, as with any place you stay has its pros and cons. We were very happy with the location, as it is seriously right across the street from the heart of the Village (shuttle service, restaurants, & lift ticket pick up are all right there! Very nice). You do have to climb/decend a lengthy staircase though (which can be difficult in ski boots) or wait approx 15-25 minutes for a shuttle pick up. We were a little bummed when we arrived as there were dirty dishes in the cabinet and no dishwasher detergent or parking passes left for us (a skillet had scrambled eggs crust all over it, like it used and put back without a bit of cleaning). However, after a phone call to the owner, we were stocked up with soap and parking passes. The decor is homey, and I would say everyone was plenty cozy (that new gas fireplace really cranks out the heat). The kitchen is nice and updated, yet the dishwasher did not clean as well as one should (maybe that was the reason the skillet was still dirty). The sauna was a nice bonus too if you want to warm up after a day on the slopes. And the view is as good as advertised. One of the best sunsets I've seen in West Virginia! Lastly, I would like to re-iterate how helpful the owners were throughout the process. They were quick to respond to emails, easy to pay, & on the ball with resupply when housekeeping dropped the ball. Additionally, Jim ended up finding an overcharge for our stay after we left and refunded the amount without us even knowing there was an overcharge. First rate all the way."

  • Best family ski vacation

"This was a great place to stay for two families (room for 12). Snow was falling as we arrived and we received a total of 16 inches during our stay. Three of the bedrooms, a bathroom, and a family room are on the lowest level which made it a great area for all the kids. At the entry level is another bathroom and plenty of space to put all your boots. Up a level to the main floor is the great room with a wood fireplace, large eat in kitchen, washer/dryer, and large master suite. Up another level is another private bedroom and bath. We thoroughly enjoyed the wood fireplace and playing games (games provided) at the large kitchen table. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you would need and the house was very spacious. Each room has it's own electric thermostat which was wonderful. The back deck has a beautiful view of the mountains and it was a great place to feed the local deer carrots and apples. The property was very clean and well maintained and they provided plenty of towels. I would highly recommend staying at this private house over staying in the crowded village. With just a simple phone call, the smaller shuttle buses pick you up from the top of the driveway. No need to wait in long shuttle lines for the large village school-like buses. When you are done skiing, you simply call the shuttle again and it returns you to the house. The ski barn located at the end of N Westridge has better prices on renting ski equipment than the village. They also give military discounts and are open until 11 pm at night. I would recommend buying your lift tickets in advance to get the discount pricing. Make sure you have a front wheel or 4-wheel drive vehicle when coming to Snowshoe. We enjoyed the beautiful private location and can't wait to come back again. It was the best family ski vacation!"
