  • Perfect family getaway

"We had a wonderful family weekend with 6 adults and 5 kiddos! The cottage is very well stocked with anything you might need. We walked every morning in the area. The trail nearby was not well traveled, so we walked on the roads safely. The bedrooms were perfect for what we needed. We brought our own Pack and Plays for the two one year olds we had, as well as portable high chairs. The pool, hot tub and baby pool area is fantastic! The hours for the pool were somewhat limited though. The spiral stairway was a challenge to keep the two youngest off of. The walk from car to front door could be difficult for someone not so steady on their feet. Overall we had fantastic time and would go again."

  • Wonderful Respite in the Woods

"My husband, sister, and I spent ten days at Sleepy Creek Cabin in early September. This was our second visit, having spent a week there in 2013. Obviously we loved it since we returned for a longer visit this time! The cabin was as presented in VRBO; however, one cannot appreciate the beauty of the building from the outside. The inside is glorious with beautiful wood cathedral ceilings and a lovely loft which my sister used as her "apartment." The owners were helpful with directions and provided extra linens for our "guest." The cabin was very clean and well-maintained with a wonderful covered porch and open deck. My husband and I spent our fifteenth anniversary at the cabin and went out for dinner at Panorama at the Peak, a restaurant not to be missed. I had a vegan entree (stuffed squash), and my husband had what he described as "best crab cake ever"! We had a couple of superb lunches at Fairfax Coffee House, but made most of our own meals. We traveled to Cacapon State Park, Martinsburg, and Hedgesville. Last year we went to Antietam, but this year, we traded history for relaxation. Everywhere we went, whether we were shopping or walking along the street, people were friendly and welcoming. Manners are much nicer here than in the North where we live! We enjoyed a recent-release movie at the local theater on a Monday afternoon. This is an old building that even has sofas in the back for easy sitting! There seemed to be a regular group of folks who attend this Monday matinee. We visited Frog Valley, an amazing collection of artisans' work, and also spent time in many other galleries and shops. We even drove over to Paw Paw, a long, winding roadway and definitely not really worth the time and gas. My husband was interested in the canal history, but, aside from a small park dedicated to the canal, Paw Paw has little to recommend it to the traveler. The cabin itself, however, was the main draw for us. The privacy and quiet are what we seek in a vacation. All three of us were able to gradually ease back from out daily lives and enjoy the freedom and beauty of the cabin, the creek, and the firepit. We would recommend this cabin for those who are like us -- people who enjoy natural beauty and peace."

  • LOVED THIS!!!!

"We stayed here for 4 nights and it was wonderful. We had such a great time. It was clean, well furnished and had so much to offer. Every detail was accurate on the web page. We will go back. We loved every single thing about our stay. Our 2 small dogs loved the place as well. This is a great place to stay and the owners are great with questions. Thank you for letting us visit your home."

  • Perfectly cozy, quiet, and relaxing

"I went here for a much-needed long weekend away from the overstimulation of the city -- I wanted a quiet, cozy place to read books by myself for a few days -- and this was absolutely perfect. It was totally private and away from the road and noises. I alternated between sitting in the hot tub looking at the sun sparkle on the snowy trees, and sitting by the cozy fireplace reading. The view from the deck was gorgeous covered in snow, and there were plenty of areas nearby to take nice long quiet walks. The kitchen is stocked well enough to cook basic meals, there are plenty of extra linens and blankets in the house (and a snow shovel out back!) -- no scrambling because some key household item just isn't there. It was also very easy to find, and only a couple of hours from Baltimore. Jackie was unbelievably helpful and communicative in getting me in there while it was snowing (which required coordinating with her plow contractor), though I was very grateful for my four-wheel drive while driving the hills back to the property while the snow was falling. I will definitely come back for time away from the city, and this would also make a great romantic getaway (I even heard a couple staying there recently got engaged there!)"

Berkeley Springs Cabins Are Ideal to "Take the Waters"

Visitors at Berkeley Springs vacation rentals will find this town is proud of its heritage. Dating from 1776, the town was originally known as Bath, after the English city famed for its healing waters. Much like its old name sake, visitors come to "take the waters," referring to the warm springs that run along the west side of the park in the center of town. The town is a great place for antiquing in the three malls and there is an excellent choice of restaurants. Today, the town sits around Berkeley Springs State Park of almost five acres where the ancient mineral springs still run along the west wall. Visitors may be interested to know that in wading through its waters, they are following in the footsteps of George Washington who stayed here. The site where President Washington took the waters is now a monument. In the town is also the Paw Paw Tunnel, on the renowned Potomac River. The tunnel is over 3,100 feet long and was once a wonder of the world. Nowadays, the town is part of the Washington Heritage Trail and also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

From here, visitors may wish to explore more of the Washington Heritage Trail through Morgan County. Following the trail takes visitors to many historic sites associated with America’s first President as well as many impressive natural areas. The Morgan County section of the Trail is some 80 miles of fascinating architecture and glorious wilderness.

Plenty of Outdoor Activities

Nearby to Berkeley Springs cabins is the 6,000-acre Cacapon Resort State Park. Here, visitors will find a wide variety of activities. The golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., is an excellent course. Over 20 miles of the park is covered by hiking trails, ranging from easy to challenging. For those who enjoy shooting, there is a Wobble Clay Shooting Range where visitors can try trap shooting.

Within the region of West Virginia, visitors will find just about every outdoor activity available within a short distance. The area is famous for its whitewater rafting, with rivers from easy to "high adventure." This mountainous region is also perfect for hiking, biking, rock climbing, horseback riding, and ATV trails. The Hatfield-McCoy Trail System welcomes ATVs, dirt and mountain bikes, horseriders and hikers. The growing pursuit of geocaching is also available here, where participants use Global Positioning Systems in a modern version of a scavenger hunt. Geocaching is a great family activity and takes visitors on a hunt across the area’s most beautiful locations. The beauty of West Virginia is not all found above ground, and visitors often enjoy exploring the caves and caverns around the region. During the winter, the area is a perfect place for downhill and cross country skiing, snowboarding, tubing and snowmobiling.
