"Close to DC but far enough to feel that you are "away" from home, this property was a pleasure to visit. The owner, Helene, was easy to work with. The property had just the right amount of space for us, two couples.
Downstairs is the master bedroom with a queen bed and an en suite bathroom. The washer dryer are in that bathroom. The second bathroom is in the living area, just outside the master. The second bedroom has a king and is located across on the other side of the living room. Upstairs is a loft with two twin beds. There is no door, it's "open" to below. These type of layout questions are important to me when I travel, I hope more reviewers will include them. It's helpful if you are travelling with kids or oldsters and need to know who can handle the stairs and who is near the bathroom.
Was it the cleanest property I've ever stayed at? No, but probably not much different from my own home at times. We had everything we needed and we really enjoyed staying there during peak fall foliage time. The deck and screen porch were great places to hang out.

"We just returned from an amazing time at this chalet. As everyone else mentioned, the views can't be beat! The deck, hot tub, and view are perfect, and we loved how quiet it was there. The inside was very comfortable also. We barely used the living area, but the couch seemed comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed, and I was grateful for the thorough and accurate descriptions of what we'd find so we knew what to take with us...and take what you need because it's a trip to get to a grocery store. The downstairs bed was comfortable and the bathroom was as nice as described. Erika and Tim were extremely responsive before our stay and also when we had trouble locating something in the chalet. They contacted us right away to make sure everything was good. We went during the week, which made it especially quiet on the mountain. We didn't see anyone on our hikes, and The Woods golf course was pretty empty and a great deal...lunch there was good also if you don't want to fix all your own meals. As others mentioned, I wouldn't want to share this space with anyone who wasn't a close friend or family because the bedroom areas aren't very private, but it could be great for a family as long as you don't have young kids (the stairs are steep). As described, there's no internet (which makes it more of a getaway), and our phones (Verizon) didn't work well either, but good enough to get a call or email out when we needed...with a little patience. This is a true getaway, and we had to extend our stay by a day because we really didn't want to leave! Thanks for sharing your little piece of heaven."

"This was a warm and welcoming place to stay. Our son got married nearby so entertaining was a breeze. There were ample beds and linens. The hot tub was a hit, my grandsons absolutely loved it. I love porches and this home has a huge front porch and a huge deck out back. We did some fishing in the lake and even caught a few.
The neighborhood was nice and quiet as promised. Your home is highly recommended and we'll be back!"

"We typically vacation at the beach each year, but as our toddler gets older we wanted to do something different this year. We picked Elk Branch Lodge because of the great reviews and the remote setting - what a nice place!
The lodge is a nice rustic place with everything we needed - and more.
The endless variety of things to do meant we never really had to leave, though we did take a few road trips to nearby places like Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw Tunnel, Cacapon and Sleepy Creek. There were plenty of trails near the lodge, board games to play and a classic collection of VHS tapes to watch. Once the toddler was off to bed, we were able to end the day with a relaxing soak in the hot tub under the stars before turning in ourselves.
All-in-all we had a relaxing and enjoyable stay at the lodge and will definitely come back again."
