"My girlfriend and I arrived Thursday evening. Barb was kind enough to leave the lights on and the keys on the table. Now that's Midwestern hospitality at its finest! The Little Cottage was stacked with everything you would need for a weekend or week or even a month of simply kicking-back and relaxing. After we arrived, we settled in, uncorked a bottle of wine and, as big city folks, soaked-up the quiet serenity and gentle lake breezes.
We awoke the following morning, slipped open the sliding glass doors, stepped literally two feet out of the cottage and we were greeted by the most beautiful sunrise over Lake Wilke. Words cannot do it justice, it was simply breathtaking and I wish Barb and Jim added a picture to this listing as I think it alone would be convincing enough to book a few days at the Little Cottage. After taking in the sunrise over some coffee and breakfast, we ventured out on the paddle boat and did a slow lap around the lake, taking in the sights, sounds and scents of quintessential Midwestern living. Aside from hawks, fish and the croaking of the occasional frog; next to the Little Cottage we encountered a turtle, who we affectionately named "Tom," sunbathing on a falling tree limb. As it were, Tom, just like us, was out every morning basking in early fall peacefulness!
I guess the best way to describe the experience is: we're pretty active big city people; we enjoy bouncing around town, but at the Little Cottage we felt absolutely no desire to go much of anywhere! We soaked some brats in beer, lit the BBQ and firepit and had a wonderful outdoor meal topped-off with smores and a moon-bathed boat ride across the lake.
The following day we lounged around until we mustered up the energy to drive into the town of Kiel and then off to Sheboygan to see what Lake Michigan looks like from around these parts. We walked the waterfront, caught the sunset by the old lighthouse, and grabbed some tasty and affordable food and drinks in downtown Sheboygan.
On our final day we took out the paddle board and kayak and cruised around the lake for one last go. We didn't want to leave but "real life," unfortunately, can only pause for a short while. We packed up our gear and took the scenic route home. All in all it was a great weekend. Barb and Jim provide everything you could possibly need to never have to leave the location and their hospitality and property proved to these city dwellers that being "cheeseheads" has some enviable perks!"
