  • Peaceful cottage in the woods!

"Of all the places we have ever stayed at in our numerous visits to Door County, this cottage will always be one our favorites. It had everything we needed plus a great location for sightseeing all of Door County. It was well furnished, had a well stocked kitchen, and comfortable beds. It was roomy and it was great to have access to a washer and dryer. We loved the solitude of being in the woods. Our visits to Door always include hiking in the state parks, but this time we brought our bikes along and took the ferry over to Washington Island and biked the perimeter of the island. That was so much fun! We also hiked at Peninsula, Potawatomi, and White Fish Dunes state parks plus we visited Cave Point county park during our three full days of sightseeing. We biked 32 miles and hiked 18 miles altogether. The fall colors were gorgeous everywhere we went. It was also so nice to come back to the cottage after our busy day to relax and enjoy our evenings. We would like to thank Charlie and Evelyn for offering this wonderful cottage as a vacation rental and we hope to stay there again the next time we visit Door County."

  • Wonderful Vacation

"This was a wonderful experience for the three of us. The cabin seemed more like a house than a cabin and was in pristine condition. You had everything available that anyone could ask for including boats for exploring the lake. The lakeshore is very inviting for a swim - even for young children. We visited a number of parks and waterfalls in the county and were impressed at how well kept up they all were. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful property with us. I feel sure we will want to repeat the experience. Bill and Annette Helwig"

  • Made us want to stay longer!!!

"We were there the week of August 2nd, 1014. What a great location! Just a couple steps off the water with our own private Dock. We rented a 8 HP motor from a Place in St Germain for the boat and were able to go all over the lake to fish and have fun! I caught Northern, Bass, Trout and Panfish right off the dock. Bring your fish cleaning tools! All the neighbors around the cabin were gone during the week, so we had a whole section to ourselves essentially. We brought our Kayaks and hit some of the Flowages around the area. Overall, I REALLY did not want to go home :-( It was that good!"

  • Comfortable site for large group

"We just finished a week at the Ben Lodge, and had a great time! There were 16 of us ranging in age from 20 to 59, and we had never been to Door County before. We were quite taken, and impressed with the large variety of things to see and do. The lodge appears to originally have been an inn, and one of the interior walls has a cutaway to show the log construction (which has since been built over with normal walls -- hence the cutaway).. It later was redone into a B&B, but now is rented as a single building. Seven of the guest rooms are one bedroom suites, four upstairs and three downstairs. Each has a large seating area (sometimes in an adjacent connected room) and a bathroom. One room has two queen beds, while the rest have one queen or king bed. Some of the rooms also have fold out couches. The eighth suite, which is upstairs, is a larger two bedrooms suite. It includes its own living room, small kitchen and a shared bathroom. The bedrooms in this suite each have a queen or king bed. All of the bedrooms have ceiling fans, as well as air conditioners. Downstairs is a full kitchen, eating area, TV lounge and large living room. The kitchen is well equipped for a large group, though a little short on large pots. All bedroom, bathroom and kitchen linens are provided, but they do ask that you bring your own beach towels. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The WiFi worked very well in most of the building, but struggled in parts of certain rooms which were directly behind the thick log walls from the router -- if you moved to a different part of the same room, it worked fine. TVs with cable connections and DVD players were in each bedroom, plus the TV lounge. Cell phone connections from multiple companies were highly variable, depending on the time of day. Out back are a lawn, charcoal grills and picnic tables shared with several smaller cabins, and extending down to a good sized wharf, which has a spectacular view of the sunset over Ellison Bay. A small grocery store is next door to the lodge -- the selection is limited, so you won't want to do your primary shopping there, but it's really convenient when you realize you're out of some basic food, or to pick up a newspaper in the morning. A coffee shop and a couple of restaurants are within a block in either direction."
