  • Wonderful Owners and Home

"Although I have used VRBO many times, I have never actually written a review of any properties. Do not hesitate to rent this home from Denise and Gene! The home is very clean, modern and in a wonderful area. Gene and Denise were excellent to work with and always very receptive to my phone calls and e-mails. Denise also contacted me while we were in the home just to make sure that we were satisfied with everything or to see if we had questions or concerns. Thank you Denise and Gene for a wonderful getaway in beautiful Door County!"

  • Beautiful, Very Special Retreat

"We spent four wonderful days here, and were so sad to leave! This is a unique, lovingly maintained property with tremendous character. The location is perfect - it's close to "town" in Ellison Bay, yet you feel a million miles away. It's large enough to host a small family reunion (as we did), with a kitchen that begs for collaborative cooking. The firepit is the perfect spot for stargazing, and we had a lot of fun playing badminton. And the WiFi works just fine :). We loved our time at Whytefyshe, and hope to return one day."

  • Comfortable site for large group

"We just finished a week at the Ben Lodge, and had a great time! There were 16 of us ranging in age from 20 to 59, and we had never been to Door County before. We were quite taken, and impressed with the large variety of things to see and do. The lodge appears to originally have been an inn, and one of the interior walls has a cutaway to show the log construction (which has since been built over with normal walls -- hence the cutaway).. It later was redone into a B&B, but now is rented as a single building. Seven of the guest rooms are one bedroom suites, four upstairs and three downstairs. Each has a large seating area (sometimes in an adjacent connected room) and a bathroom. One room has two queen beds, while the rest have one queen or king bed. Some of the rooms also have fold out couches. The eighth suite, which is upstairs, is a larger two bedrooms suite. It includes its own living room, small kitchen and a shared bathroom. The bedrooms in this suite each have a queen or king bed. All of the bedrooms have ceiling fans, as well as air conditioners. Downstairs is a full kitchen, eating area, TV lounge and large living room. The kitchen is well equipped for a large group, though a little short on large pots. All bedroom, bathroom and kitchen linens are provided, but they do ask that you bring your own beach towels. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The WiFi worked very well in most of the building, but struggled in parts of certain rooms which were directly behind the thick log walls from the router -- if you moved to a different part of the same room, it worked fine. TVs with cable connections and DVD players were in each bedroom, plus the TV lounge. Cell phone connections from multiple companies were highly variable, depending on the time of day. Out back are a lawn, charcoal grills and picnic tables shared with several smaller cabins, and extending down to a good sized wharf, which has a spectacular view of the sunset over Ellison Bay. A small grocery store is next door to the lodge -- the selection is limited, so you won't want to do your primary shopping there, but it's really convenient when you realize you're out of some basic food, or to pick up a newspaper in the morning. A coffee shop and a couple of restaurants are within a block in either direction."

  • Perfect place for a wedding!

"My son and his fiance (now wife) chose to have a very intimate wedding in the Door Peninsula, a favorite place of theirs. When they came across this rental, they immediately knew it was the perfect place for their special day! They actually had both the ceremony and reception on the property. The rooms are all beautifully unique and there was plenty of room for everyone to stay. Off of the common room was a kitchen that was well supplied with cookware and a large fridge and freezer- everything we needed to cook and store food for the reception. The grounds and location were beautiful- just across the road from the marina. It made for a great photo backdrop at sunset. The owner was very accessible and accomodating. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to have a family reunion or an intimate wedding celebration."
