  • Great get-away for large family

"Just wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed our stay at your place. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is not the most fanciest place, but I would rather stay somewhere and feel relaxed as opposed to being nervous about damaging a beautiful piece of furniture. When you are up north, hopefully you are spending most of your time outside. We really appreciate the fact that you let us bring our dogs; they are part of the family. The weather was pretty good and we were especially pleased to find out that you have a service for pest control come in and spray. We had absolutely no mosquitoes, which was something we were very concerned about. Your place offers great swimming. There were absolutely no weeds. And we all had a great time around the firepit. The new kitchen is beautiful. You surely have enough pots and pans. We were all very comfortable for sleeping and it was great to have so many beds. Thanks for a great week! we really appreciate the fact that you let us bring our dogs"

  • Best Family Vacation!

"My family of 6 had the best time this summer! The house fit us all perfectly! We had campfires every night and tubed on the lake all day! My older boys (14 and 11 yrs old) enjoyed using the John boat w/ oars for gills...and my younger 2 (3 and 2 yrs old) caught tons of gills off the dock! Can't beat a week of relaxing up north!"

  • Christmas in July

"We all found this place to be very comfortable, very spacious, and retreat-like for our multigenerational family "Christmas in July" celebration. Raspberries and blueberries were available. Trout and bass were caught and eaten too. T-ball, badmington, frisbee throwing, and outdoor grilling when not in or on the water. Games were played at night and some even ventured out for a late night walk in the woods. Birds and foul, four footed animals, and waterfalls for viewing pleasures. The space suited us since there were 11 adults, 3 teens, 1 toddler, and an infant. The kitchen and dining rooms were a gathering space for a few of the special meals, with room for all (cooks and recipients). the pantry, refrigerator, and counter space were welcome accomodations. Even the mayfly hatch was considered fun -all of the windows were covered! "Newbies" to the area went to view the Paulding light. Some of us enjoyed the geocaching in the area, one of which included a challenging rigorous hike. Thanks for opening this home to us. Great time in a wonderful place."

  • Perfect Family Getaway

"My husband and I took our 5 daughters (3-12 yrs), and his parents this past weekend. We had plenty of space!! The house was very clean, had plenty of blankets/pillows/towels and had a very full kitchen, 2 refrigerators, toddler toys and many staples. The deck had a locked gate on it which was ideal for the small kids. The beach was perfect---slow sloping sandy soft entry to end of dock and another floating pad to jump off of. The backyard is huge and ideal for playing sports! The TV s, wifi and A/C were an added bonuses. Despite the lack of sun, our family had a great time and made many happy memories!"

Eagle River Travel Tips

Eagle River Vacation Rentals in a Rural Wilderness

The Wisconsin city of Eagle River, Vilas County is in a rural wilderness area that is a great location for vacations all year-round. Eagle River lodging is accessible from major airports such as Duluth, Minnesota and Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Main roads through the area include US Highway 45, State Routes 17, 32 and 70. With Three Lakes and St. Germain, Eagle River is known as the heart of Wisconsin’s Northwoods. The link of 28 lakes is the biggest chain of freshwater lakes in the world. Its warm summers and cold, snowy winters attract visitors seeking America’s great outdoors and they find it here. Its name comes from the many bald eagles that live in the area and visitors are likely to spot this elusive bird here.

Eagle River Cabins Are Where the Firefighters Build You a Palace

Winter visitors to Eagle River vacation rentals are treated to a very special sight. Each year since about 1920, local firefighters build an ice palace, using 3,000 12-inch thick blocks of ice chiseled from the local lake. They then drag them to Eagle River to create this incredible structure which is then lit with multi-colored lights. Year after year, the structure gets bigger and has become an enormously popular attraction for locals and visitors.

The main reason that visitors come here in winter is for the excellent snowmobiling conditions. In fact, it is known as the Snowmobile Capital of the World. Enthusiasts come to ride the 500 miles of trails, known as the famous “Eagle River 500." The trails are interconnected to create an infinite network of riding opportunities through spectacular terrain in breathtaking scenery. Of course, it is not just about snowmobiling; the trails also provide great snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Visitors can also enjoy ice skating on the river, watching for local white tail deer and, naturally, trying to spot those bald eagles soaring through the blue winter skies.

Anglers will not be disappointed with a vacation to Eagle River. There are 1,327 lakes and 73 rivers and streams. This much water is bound to provide a hot area for fishing. Within the lakes and rivers are bass, trout, musky and walleye.

Make your way to Wildwood Wildlife Park at Minocque in Northwoods for a great family day. Here, children can enjoy the petting area and learn more about the local wildlife. There are also fishing, boating, kayaking and canoeing as well as hiking and biking in summer. Or head to Whisker Lake’s 33,200-acre primitive wilderness acreage where some 250 black bears and wolves are your neighbors.

Fascinating Day Trips Abound

Day trips for those staying in Eagle River cabins include George W. Brown Jr. Ojibwe Museum and Cultural Center. This is one of the best Native American museums in the Midwest and includes an exhibit of a year in the life of the Anishinabe tribe in a wonderful lakeside setting. More Native American history is available at the Oneida Nation Museum. Snowmobiling fans may want to visit the International Snowmobile Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. Learn more about Vilas County at the Northern Waters Museum. Children will enjoy the Northwoods Children’s Museum with its interactive exhibits such as the Badger Mine, where children can crawl through the "mine" in search of "gold" and "gems." Another exhibit is the Bubble Station where the kids can be encased in a real bubble! There are also workshops and family-focused events that take place all year long.
