  • Here's The Only Thing Wrong With This Beautiful Lake Home - It Is Too Perfect!

"I'll start off by saying that our two weeks at the Craig's log home (read home not cabin) on picturesque Bass Lake seemed more like a couple days! It is just too perfect, and the time zooms by way too fast! This was our second summer at this very, very special place on this perfect lake. Last year we stayed in this beautiful home for one week. That was too short. This year it was two weeks; once again too short! The pictures provided here are accurate, but do not do the reality justice. It is stunningly beautiful!!! There were ten of us there, but this home is so huge and perfectly arranged it never ever seemed crowded in the least. My gosh, there is seating for 20 for dinner! The perfect kitchen has a Pizza Oven!!! That made cooking for the kids and cooking for the adults so easy! The Craig's home is warm and inviting and perfectly arranged for evening family games of cards, charades, and numerous boardgames that are readily available. The downstairs has a big screen TV with surround sound along with arcade games and a second kitchen and sauna. Oh my, once again.., perfect! And that lake.., beautiful Bass Lake; perfect for fishing, skiing, swimming from their sandy beach in its crystal clear waters. And sunsets on the Craig's pier are nothing less than breathtaking. The Craig's are very kind, responsive, and keep their word! This perfect place really and truly has it all. I highly recommend it and truly look forward to being there again.., for three weeks!"

  • Beat the System!

"My family had a very enjoyable time at this off-the-grid cabin. The owner was very pleasant and accommodating, and the cabin and property were both very good. It was a lot of fun living off of solar power while we were there. We never had to use the back-up generator and had all the power we needed. Beds were comfortable and the lake was very peaceful and quiet. Great for boating, kayaking, and fishing. Absolutely awesome sunsets! You really feel that you have gotten away from it all at this cabin, as it is quite remote. But you also have easy access to Eagle River, Three Lakes, and Rhinelander."

"I knew it was going to be a fantastic time when I saw the Bald Eagle nestled in the tree above the pier! the wildlife is abundant and the fishing is FANTASTIC! The house was everything we could ask for, comfortable, very well maintained and had everything we needed for our week in the woods. My kids loved the sandbox out back and fishing off of the piers. Thank you Jan for everything! It was a great visit and a wonderful place to spend some time.. We will be back!!"

  • Beautiful, peaceful and relaxing!!

"This is a beautiful property. The cabin and grounds are very well maintained, clean and comfortable. We had a great week and our dog was in heaven (both on land and on the lake!). Communication with the owner and local manager was great. We are already talking about going back next year!! Would highly recommend this or the neighboring house on the same lot. Both are beautiful!"

Eagle River Travel Tips

Eagle River Vacation Rentals in a Rural Wilderness

The Wisconsin city of Eagle River, Vilas County is in a rural wilderness area that is a great location for vacations all year-round. Eagle River lodging is accessible from major airports such as Duluth, Minnesota and Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Main roads through the area include US Highway 45, State Routes 17, 32 and 70. With Three Lakes and St. Germain, Eagle River is known as the heart of Wisconsin’s Northwoods. The link of 28 lakes is the biggest chain of freshwater lakes in the world. Its warm summers and cold, snowy winters attract visitors seeking America’s great outdoors and they find it here. Its name comes from the many bald eagles that live in the area and visitors are likely to spot this elusive bird here.

Eagle River Cabins Are Where the Firefighters Build You a Palace

Winter visitors to Eagle River vacation rentals are treated to a very special sight. Each year since about 1920, local firefighters build an ice palace, using 3,000 12-inch thick blocks of ice chiseled from the local lake. They then drag them to Eagle River to create this incredible structure which is then lit with multi-colored lights. Year after year, the structure gets bigger and has become an enormously popular attraction for locals and visitors.

The main reason that visitors come here in winter is for the excellent snowmobiling conditions. In fact, it is known as the Snowmobile Capital of the World. Enthusiasts come to ride the 500 miles of trails, known as the famous “Eagle River 500." The trails are interconnected to create an infinite network of riding opportunities through spectacular terrain in breathtaking scenery. Of course, it is not just about snowmobiling; the trails also provide great snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Visitors can also enjoy ice skating on the river, watching for local white tail deer and, naturally, trying to spot those bald eagles soaring through the blue winter skies.

Anglers will not be disappointed with a vacation to Eagle River. There are 1,327 lakes and 73 rivers and streams. This much water is bound to provide a hot area for fishing. Within the lakes and rivers are bass, trout, musky and walleye.

Make your way to Wildwood Wildlife Park at Minocque in Northwoods for a great family day. Here, children can enjoy the petting area and learn more about the local wildlife. There are also fishing, boating, kayaking and canoeing as well as hiking and biking in summer. Or head to Whisker Lake’s 33,200-acre primitive wilderness acreage where some 250 black bears and wolves are your neighbors.

Fascinating Day Trips Abound

Day trips for those staying in Eagle River cabins include George W. Brown Jr. Ojibwe Museum and Cultural Center. This is one of the best Native American museums in the Midwest and includes an exhibit of a year in the life of the Anishinabe tribe in a wonderful lakeside setting. More Native American history is available at the Oneida Nation Museum. Snowmobiling fans may want to visit the International Snowmobile Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. Learn more about Vilas County at the Northern Waters Museum. Children will enjoy the Northwoods Children’s Museum with its interactive exhibits such as the Badger Mine, where children can crawl through the "mine" in search of "gold" and "gems." Another exhibit is the Bubble Station where the kids can be encased in a real bubble! There are also workshops and family-focused events that take place all year long.
