  • Perfect Northwoods Setting!

"Just returned from a week at this lake-front property on Carpenter Lake in Eagle River, and can't say enough positive things. First, Carpenter Lake is beautiful... it features crystal clear water, good fishing and bald eagles in residence; not a lot of motor boat traffic, so it's really peaceful! The cabin itself is a great space with an authentic northwoods cabin feel. A big bonus for us was that renters have their own dock, as well as access to a row boat, canoe, kayaks and paddle boards. By far the best feature of this cabin is it's setting -- a beautiful, level lot under a canopy of trees with a perfect view of the lake."

  • Total Privacy----Top Notch

"I came to Voyageur View with my two sons and daughter for the first time. Wanted to come in the summer, but the whole summer was booked already. I can now see why. The house was extremely clean with nice little touches throughout and was equipped with absolutely anything you could possibly need. I have never stayed on a peninsula before, the views were fantastic in all directions. When the kids went off into town, I walked the perimeter of the property, over and over, just listening to the sounds of nature. I could have done this all day long!! We had a tremendous long weekend. Frank"

  • Great Vacation Home!

"This was our second year back to this home. PERFECT for two families enjoying the week! Tons of bedrooms and lots of space. Screen deck is great for relaxing or playing games with the kids. Inside there is a very generous sized dining room table to gather for large family meals or play puzzles, and the downstairs is another great area to watch tv, play games and more. The home is very well appointed from the kitchen that has everything to personal touches from the owners. These include fresh flowers on arrival and gifts to renters based on the owner's special interests. The owners are very accommodating in any way they can and the home's caregiver who lives near by is equally as helpful. I can see renting this home for many years to come!"

  • Third annual fall getaway

"This is the third year my friends and I stayed at the Kohta house for our annual fall pilgrimage to Eagle River. The house is nicely remodeled, plenty of room for our trucks with boats, and is always clean. The Manager (Steve) is great and makes sure everything is ready to go! This is perfect as there is enough beds for the 5 of us, plenty of room, kitchen is fully equipped to have meals together, two levels to hang out and watch TV, play cards, or just peering out at the awesome lake view. The beds and furniture are very comfortable for a group of us middle aged guys! There are great musky lakes in the area, restaurants (Log Cabin Inn is our favorite), a nice public shooting range just north on 45, and a reasonable drive to the casino in Watersmeet. Looking forward to our 4th fall getaway at the Kohta house!"

Eagle River Travel Tips

Eagle River Vacation Rentals in a Rural Wilderness

The Wisconsin city of Eagle River, Vilas County is in a rural wilderness area that is a great location for vacations all year-round. Eagle River lodging is accessible from major airports such as Duluth, Minnesota and Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Main roads through the area include US Highway 45, State Routes 17, 32 and 70. With Three Lakes and St. Germain, Eagle River is known as the heart of Wisconsin’s Northwoods. The link of 28 lakes is the biggest chain of freshwater lakes in the world. Its warm summers and cold, snowy winters attract visitors seeking America’s great outdoors and they find it here. Its name comes from the many bald eagles that live in the area and visitors are likely to spot this elusive bird here.

Eagle River Cabins Are Where the Firefighters Build You a Palace

Winter visitors to Eagle River vacation rentals are treated to a very special sight. Each year since about 1920, local firefighters build an ice palace, using 3,000 12-inch thick blocks of ice chiseled from the local lake. They then drag them to Eagle River to create this incredible structure which is then lit with multi-colored lights. Year after year, the structure gets bigger and has become an enormously popular attraction for locals and visitors.

The main reason that visitors come here in winter is for the excellent snowmobiling conditions. In fact, it is known as the Snowmobile Capital of the World. Enthusiasts come to ride the 500 miles of trails, known as the famous “Eagle River 500." The trails are interconnected to create an infinite network of riding opportunities through spectacular terrain in breathtaking scenery. Of course, it is not just about snowmobiling; the trails also provide great snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Visitors can also enjoy ice skating on the river, watching for local white tail deer and, naturally, trying to spot those bald eagles soaring through the blue winter skies.

Anglers will not be disappointed with a vacation to Eagle River. There are 1,327 lakes and 73 rivers and streams. This much water is bound to provide a hot area for fishing. Within the lakes and rivers are bass, trout, musky and walleye.

Make your way to Wildwood Wildlife Park at Minocque in Northwoods for a great family day. Here, children can enjoy the petting area and learn more about the local wildlife. There are also fishing, boating, kayaking and canoeing as well as hiking and biking in summer. Or head to Whisker Lake’s 33,200-acre primitive wilderness acreage where some 250 black bears and wolves are your neighbors.

Fascinating Day Trips Abound

Day trips for those staying in Eagle River cabins include George W. Brown Jr. Ojibwe Museum and Cultural Center. This is one of the best Native American museums in the Midwest and includes an exhibit of a year in the life of the Anishinabe tribe in a wonderful lakeside setting. More Native American history is available at the Oneida Nation Museum. Snowmobiling fans may want to visit the International Snowmobile Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. Learn more about Vilas County at the Northern Waters Museum. Children will enjoy the Northwoods Children’s Museum with its interactive exhibits such as the Badger Mine, where children can crawl through the "mine" in search of "gold" and "gems." Another exhibit is the Bubble Station where the kids can be encased in a real bubble! There are also workshops and family-focused events that take place all year long.
