  • Highly Recommend!

"This place is phenomenal! We arrived just when the fall colors were beginning and the drive to the cabin was gorgeous. The cabin is further off the road than most of the properties we saw on this lake. We brought our 2 year old and 4 year old with us. There were tons of kid friendly games and videos. There were also plenty of kid friendly dishes in the kitchen. The view of Dam Lake from the cabin is spectacular. The sandy bottom beach was perfect for the kids. Even though we brought our own sand toys, the kids were excited to find plenty of sand toys in the beach house. We were impressed at the life jacket selection and the boats. Our family loved the kayaks and paddleboat. We let the kids fish off the dock and while they didn't catch anything, they got plenty of bites (we think our bait was too big). We had a wonderful stay and we can't wait to return next year!"

  • Clean and Comfortable

"Very clean cabin with newer appliances, furniture, and decor. It is easy to feel at home. Other cabins I have stayed at provide kitchen utensils and appliances that are worn out, but I was impressed with the quality of everything in the kitchen. The lake is really ideal for kids. The water is very clear and the bottom is firm sand with a gradual pitch. The on-site boat launch was very convenient, although it might be too shallow to launch larger boats. We caught several northerns and a few crappies. Little boat traffic. The weather wasn't great, so we enjoyed several attractions in Eagle River. The children's science museum is particularly good. We enjoyed the flying squirrel dropping acorns at us at night while sitting around the camp fire. We hope to return next year!"

  • Perfect Northwoods Setting!

"Just returned from a week at this lake-front property on Carpenter Lake in Eagle River, and can't say enough positive things. First, Carpenter Lake is beautiful... it features crystal clear water, good fishing and bald eagles in residence; not a lot of motor boat traffic, so it's really peaceful! The cabin itself is a great space with an authentic northwoods cabin feel. A big bonus for us was that renters have their own dock, as well as access to a row boat, canoe, kayaks and paddle boards. By far the best feature of this cabin is it's setting -- a beautiful, level lot under a canopy of trees with a perfect view of the lake."

  • Awesome Loghome Retreat Time!!

"Our stay in Eagle River was great. The weather was somewhat cold, but we nonetheless enjoyed Thursday out on the lake and at the dock with our rental pontoon boat. Friday morning we had a fishing tour and all of us caught some walleye. Unfortunately too small to keep, but lot's of fun. Friday afternoon was rainy, but thanks to this great house we never got bored (think fireplaces, pool billiard, foosball, etc.). We made good use of the Weber grills on the patio and simply enjoyed the awesome home all around. Everything was as promised or better, and there is absolutely nothing we could ask to improve: WLAN, kitchen supplies, garage with remote control, firewood, spare gas tank for BBQ, etc. - everything there, perfect. Also, the caretaker is doing a wonderful job and life is easy when getting to the log home retreat. Congratulations on this exceptional house up-North, the location and everything around is superb! Thanks for renting it out to us, I would love to be back with my family some time."

Eagle River Travel Tips

Eagle River Vacation Rentals in a Rural Wilderness

The Wisconsin city of Eagle River, Vilas County is in a rural wilderness area that is a great location for vacations all year-round. Eagle River lodging is accessible from major airports such as Duluth, Minnesota and Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Main roads through the area include US Highway 45, State Routes 17, 32 and 70. With Three Lakes and St. Germain, Eagle River is known as the heart of Wisconsin’s Northwoods. The link of 28 lakes is the biggest chain of freshwater lakes in the world. Its warm summers and cold, snowy winters attract visitors seeking America’s great outdoors and they find it here. Its name comes from the many bald eagles that live in the area and visitors are likely to spot this elusive bird here.

Eagle River Cabins Are Where the Firefighters Build You a Palace

Winter visitors to Eagle River vacation rentals are treated to a very special sight. Each year since about 1920, local firefighters build an ice palace, using 3,000 12-inch thick blocks of ice chiseled from the local lake. They then drag them to Eagle River to create this incredible structure which is then lit with multi-colored lights. Year after year, the structure gets bigger and has become an enormously popular attraction for locals and visitors.

The main reason that visitors come here in winter is for the excellent snowmobiling conditions. In fact, it is known as the Snowmobile Capital of the World. Enthusiasts come to ride the 500 miles of trails, known as the famous “Eagle River 500." The trails are interconnected to create an infinite network of riding opportunities through spectacular terrain in breathtaking scenery. Of course, it is not just about snowmobiling; the trails also provide great snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Visitors can also enjoy ice skating on the river, watching for local white tail deer and, naturally, trying to spot those bald eagles soaring through the blue winter skies.

Anglers will not be disappointed with a vacation to Eagle River. There are 1,327 lakes and 73 rivers and streams. This much water is bound to provide a hot area for fishing. Within the lakes and rivers are bass, trout, musky and walleye.

Make your way to Wildwood Wildlife Park at Minocque in Northwoods for a great family day. Here, children can enjoy the petting area and learn more about the local wildlife. There are also fishing, boating, kayaking and canoeing as well as hiking and biking in summer. Or head to Whisker Lake’s 33,200-acre primitive wilderness acreage where some 250 black bears and wolves are your neighbors.

Fascinating Day Trips Abound

Day trips for those staying in Eagle River cabins include George W. Brown Jr. Ojibwe Museum and Cultural Center. This is one of the best Native American museums in the Midwest and includes an exhibit of a year in the life of the Anishinabe tribe in a wonderful lakeside setting. More Native American history is available at the Oneida Nation Museum. Snowmobiling fans may want to visit the International Snowmobile Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. Learn more about Vilas County at the Northern Waters Museum. Children will enjoy the Northwoods Children’s Museum with its interactive exhibits such as the Badger Mine, where children can crawl through the "mine" in search of "gold" and "gems." Another exhibit is the Bubble Station where the kids can be encased in a real bubble! There are also workshops and family-focused events that take place all year long.
