  • Pleasantly surprised!

"I found this listing on VRBO. Decided to take the chance and made reservations. My only concern was the dwelling was a trailer in which I have never stayed in before. Loved the place. It was clean, spacious, and a wonderful view from the back deck of the lake. The trailer sat back in the woods and was very private and secluded. Some of the amenities were a dishwasher, washer and dryer, furnace and plenty of cups, glasses, dishes, silverware, etc. The beds were so comfortable. On the downside would be poor TV reception and no wireless. There is a canoe provided for the lake but the swimming beach is down the road a bit. Sometimes it is nice to get away from the distractions of life. I met the owner who was very informative and friendly. Great for birding. Saw an eagle flying rather low. I would definitely go back ."

  • Winter Wonderland

"We've previously stayed at the Cranberry Castle during the summer, however this year our schedules only permitted a winter getaway. We loved all that the summer has to offer at the home, but being at the home in the winter really provided some new fun activities. We had an incredible time building fires in the fireplace, playing Christmas music over the home's stereo system and playing outside in the snow. Eagle River also offers sleigh rides near the high school which was most deffinately the HIT of the entire week! Renting snowmobiles would have been the only thing to make this trip better."

  • Highly Recommend!

"This place is phenomenal! We arrived just when the fall colors were beginning and the drive to the cabin was gorgeous. The cabin is further off the road than most of the properties we saw on this lake. We brought our 2 year old and 4 year old with us. There were tons of kid friendly games and videos. There were also plenty of kid friendly dishes in the kitchen. The view of Dam Lake from the cabin is spectacular. The sandy bottom beach was perfect for the kids. Even though we brought our own sand toys, the kids were excited to find plenty of sand toys in the beach house. We were impressed at the life jacket selection and the boats. Our family loved the kayaks and paddleboat. We let the kids fish off the dock and while they didn't catch anything, they got plenty of bites (we think our bait was too big). We had a wonderful stay and we can't wait to return next year!"

  • Jada Trip Round 2

"This passed June I visited the Jada House for the second time. The first time I visited Jada House I fell in love with the relaxation and cozy feeling it provided. When I visited Jada House in October of 2013 I enjoyed the forest views, the colder weather, and the availability of a warm fireplace. The trip was so amazing I decided to return in June 2014 to experience the area in the summer time. I can't wait to go again this October to check out the cranberry festival."

Eagle River Travel Tips

Eagle River Vacation Rentals in a Rural Wilderness

The Wisconsin city of Eagle River, Vilas County is in a rural wilderness area that is a great location for vacations all year-round. Eagle River lodging is accessible from major airports such as Duluth, Minnesota and Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Main roads through the area include US Highway 45, State Routes 17, 32 and 70. With Three Lakes and St. Germain, Eagle River is known as the heart of Wisconsin’s Northwoods. The link of 28 lakes is the biggest chain of freshwater lakes in the world. Its warm summers and cold, snowy winters attract visitors seeking America’s great outdoors and they find it here. Its name comes from the many bald eagles that live in the area and visitors are likely to spot this elusive bird here.

Eagle River Cabins Are Where the Firefighters Build You a Palace

Winter visitors to Eagle River vacation rentals are treated to a very special sight. Each year since about 1920, local firefighters build an ice palace, using 3,000 12-inch thick blocks of ice chiseled from the local lake. They then drag them to Eagle River to create this incredible structure which is then lit with multi-colored lights. Year after year, the structure gets bigger and has become an enormously popular attraction for locals and visitors.

The main reason that visitors come here in winter is for the excellent snowmobiling conditions. In fact, it is known as the Snowmobile Capital of the World. Enthusiasts come to ride the 500 miles of trails, known as the famous “Eagle River 500." The trails are interconnected to create an infinite network of riding opportunities through spectacular terrain in breathtaking scenery. Of course, it is not just about snowmobiling; the trails also provide great snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Visitors can also enjoy ice skating on the river, watching for local white tail deer and, naturally, trying to spot those bald eagles soaring through the blue winter skies.

Anglers will not be disappointed with a vacation to Eagle River. There are 1,327 lakes and 73 rivers and streams. This much water is bound to provide a hot area for fishing. Within the lakes and rivers are bass, trout, musky and walleye.

Make your way to Wildwood Wildlife Park at Minocque in Northwoods for a great family day. Here, children can enjoy the petting area and learn more about the local wildlife. There are also fishing, boating, kayaking and canoeing as well as hiking and biking in summer. Or head to Whisker Lake’s 33,200-acre primitive wilderness acreage where some 250 black bears and wolves are your neighbors.

Fascinating Day Trips Abound

Day trips for those staying in Eagle River cabins include George W. Brown Jr. Ojibwe Museum and Cultural Center. This is one of the best Native American museums in the Midwest and includes an exhibit of a year in the life of the Anishinabe tribe in a wonderful lakeside setting. More Native American history is available at the Oneida Nation Museum. Snowmobiling fans may want to visit the International Snowmobile Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. Learn more about Vilas County at the Northern Waters Museum. Children will enjoy the Northwoods Children’s Museum with its interactive exhibits such as the Badger Mine, where children can crawl through the "mine" in search of "gold" and "gems." Another exhibit is the Bubble Station where the kids can be encased in a real bubble! There are also workshops and family-focused events that take place all year long.
