  • Comfortable week in door

"Just spent a great week in Door County, on the outskirts of Fish Creek, at this unusual and beautiful house in a quarry. Mitch and Mary were our hosts, they were gracious, thoughtful, and generous. They gave us a tour of the whole house, which was very interesting, and Mary even made us a zucchini bread and picked some tomatoes for us. They live on the property, and were respectful of our privacy, but were available to help us if needed. Though the carriage house is attached to the main house, there is an outside stairway between the two buildings, so we could never hear them. They made sure we knew we were welcome to join them on their patio any time, but if we just wanted to wind down alone after an active day, there was a small patio with table and chairs behind the carriage house as well. We were able to bike from the house, and Peninsula state Park was just a few minutes by car. We spent our time there hiking with my dog, kayaking and biking. It rained one day out of the week, which was perfect for gallery hopping."

  • A Perfect Retreat

"Our family of 4 recently concluded a month long rental in August 2014 at Bob and Jeanne’s cabin. Bob and Jeanne are gracious hosts. Both greeted us on our arrival and made effort to connect with us periodically during our time at the cabin. Long-time visitors to the Northwoods of Wisconsin, we could not have been more happy with our experience here. The cabin was perfectly appointed with plenty of room to accommodate our family, plus several members of our extended family who visited us periodically during our rental. With its knotted pine interior and big stone fireplace, the house has that perfect Northwoods feel. The glass sided deck and huge windows provide outstanding views of the lake and the undeveloped state forest on the opposite shore. From the flagstone patio (complete with fire pit) to the nicely maintained lakefront area, it’s clear that Bob and Jeanne have invested a lot of time and effort to make the house and overall property a true retreat for their guests. Little Spider Lake is a lovely lake of about 235 acres. It feels a lot bigger given its shape, which offer a number of coves, inlets and bays to explore. With Bob’s recommendation, we rented a pontoon boat to use during our time for fishing/swimming and general boating on the lake. A buoy in the middle of the lake marks a sandbar/island that was fun to visit and swim off of. The water is extremely clear. It is a good lake for both swimming and fishing. We caught a large number of respectable largemouth bass and oodles of pan fish during our time. Eagles and loons were ever-present while we were on the lake. Other reviews and the property description already adequately and accurately tout the nearby amenities. It really is hard to imagine a better location. Our family particularly enjoyed riding the Boulder Junction bike trail, swimming and beaching at Crystal Lake, and hiking the Fallison Lake Nature Trail. All just a short 5 minute drive from the cabin. The Northern Cafe and its fantastic breakfast fare is not to be missed. Having rented other properties in surrounding communities in recent years (some good, some lacking), none would top Bob & Jeanne's on our list of recommendations."

  • Home away from Home

"I have stayed at the Sunset Beach Condos each summer for 4 years and each time I fall back in love with this place! The Sunsets every night are spectacular. I also enjoy the small town feeling of Dykesville, including dining at the Dykesville Bowl (best cheese curds in the state!) and an evening cone at the Frosty Tip. Since my family is in the Green Bay area, this is a great spot to call my own for my summer visits. And, it is also very convenient to Sturgeon Bay and Door County. I'm already looking forward to next summer!"

  • Wouldn't Be Summer Without Lake Rest Cabins

"We just spent our 6th year in the Loon's Lodge at Lake Rest Cabins. Our yearly visit to Lake Rest Cabins is now a family tradition with our two adult children and their growing families when they can join us. The Loon's Lodge easily accommodates 3 generations under one roof, but is still cozy even when it's just my husband and I. Linda and Ken are the perfect hosts, the cabin is perfect with personal touches, and Little Spider Lake is perfect with not being busy or crowded with too many speed boats zooming around. Retreating to Lake Rest Cabins is the perfect way to relax and rejuvenate. Can't wait for next year! It just wouldn't be summer without our yearly visit to Lake Rest Cabins!"
